Lead Laboratory Assistant

Elemental Enzymes is looking for a Lead Laboratory Assistant to play an integral role, supporting Elemental Enzymes’ agricultural manufacturing and quality control laboratory by supporting all facility services for this St. Louis based laboratory. The role is an important support function for the laboratory scientists, making sure they have the material and support to conduct their research.

 

Job Description

  • Restocking inventory supplies and consumables.
  • Assisting with inventory management, storage, and maintenance of supplies, and labware.
  • Perform routine cleaning and sterilization of laboratory equipment including but not limited to, freezer thaws, biosafety cabinet UV sterilization, and pipette disinfection.
  • Responsible for aseptically preparing solutions, reagents, liquid media & media plates for general laboratory use and at the request of laboratory personnel
  • Responsible for tasks including autoclaving laboratory dishes and general cleaning, including laboratory waste disposal and recycling.
  • Ensure Good Laboratory Practices, including proper recordkeeping.
  • Aid development and implementation of policies, procedures, systems, and standards for lab operations to ensure the efficiency, effectiveness, safety, and quality control of the laboratory and compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Support the Laboratory Manager in ensuring the laboratory is safe and compliant with Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) standards
  • Additional responsibilities may be added at the discretion of management

 

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Biology, Microbiology or 2+ years of experience of technical/administrative experience in laboratory operations or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Operational knowledge of common wet lab equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Proven ability to budget time and manage day-to-day laboratory operations and organization.
  • Eagerness to develop, learn and adopt new methods.


Physical Characteristics

  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  • Lifting: Ability to regularly lift or move +50 Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.
  • Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Repetitive motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or finger, picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.
  • Light work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
  • Those with this position must be able to work in Biosafety Level 2 Laboratory which can cause more illnesses to those with immunocompromised systems.
