Race Department is a team-oriented department focused on providing our race team members with excellent customer service on and off the mountain. This job focuses on training children in the skills, theory, sportsmanship, discipline, and enjoyment of competitive skiing. Coaches may also be utilized to perform race clinics for other guests. Coaches may also travel to other ski areas to assist team members at race meetings. Coaches are integral in the organization, setup and execution of race events hosted at Dodge Ridge.
In addition to coaching duties, the Head Coach will be responsible for developing and implementing a season training schedule to meet the needs of the various teams. This will include the planning and scheduling of staff, equipment, mountain space, facilities, etc., in order to achieve the training plan while also meeting the needs of offsite race commitments and on-site Dodge Ridge event support.
Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesThis job description is intended as a summary of the primary responsibilities of and the qualifications for the position. - Be responsible for the development, communication, and successful implementation of the team training plan. Support athletes in developing and attaining goals.
- Supervise and support coaches to ensure their successful coaching of athletes in alignment with training plan and adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Be the department head acting as the manager in charge and being responsible for meeting or exceeding the overall objectives of the department.
- Ensure that all staff communication is delivered timely, accurately and in a clear and concise manner.
- Attend weekly manager meetings or have a designate attend.
- Attend monthly safety committee meetings or have a designate attend.
- Coach and teach techniques and tactics of ski racing and improve athletes’ readiness to compete.
- Develop a sense of team spirit and teamwork among staff and athletes
- Be responsible for achieving the financial goals of the department and operating within the department’s budget guidelines.
- Supervise, support, and ensure the successful implementation for the race administrator’s activities. Ensure all athletes have paid and completed required documentation.
- Travel to races as required according to the policies and procedures of the company
- Ensure the timely and professional set-up and tear down of courses and ensure the timely communication and coordination of the department’s on-mountain needs with the Mountain & Risk Manager.
- Direct the filming of athletes during training and facilitate analysis with athletes and parents and deliver athlete evaluations in meetings with athletes and parents
- Facilitate and promote regular (weekly) communication among team members, parents, and staff. Attend and participate in Race Team and Race Club meetings
- Meet the responsibilities and expectations of your Job Description, Department Policies, Risk Management Program and Company Handbook
- Act in a professional and ethical manner as a positive role model for athletes and other coaches.
- Maintain appropriate USSA training and participate in USSA coaches’ continuing education
- Monitor team conduct to help racers follow USSA Code of Conduct and at all times adhere to the Skiers Responsibility Code. Correct behavior in appropriate manner if needed
- Work closely with the Mountain & Risk Manager and other staff to present highest quality racing events possible.
- Be responsible for the staff’s adherence to all company policies and procedures. Be responsible for the relevant and complete risk management plan for the department.
- Complete staff evaluations and assessments. Work with the HR Manager to resolve employee issues.
- Develop coaches’ schedules in alignment with the department’s financial plan and ensure the distribution to staff biweekly.
- Provide timely and accurate information concerning weather conditions, grooming or slope conditions and related information that mayor will impact the athletes training or race schedule.
- Communicate problems to superiors, while showing initiative in handling routine and emergency matters.

- Associate or full certified member of PSIA.
- Level 1 status with USSCA.
- Knowledge of USSA/FAR WEST rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Member in good standing of USSA and FAR WEST.
- Good communication skills with Race Club parents.
- Ability to read and to write legibly and to use good composition skills to complete records and report forms.
- Must be aware of the ski areas terrain and facilities.
- Good organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain control over coaches with a positive attitude.
- Ability to learn and be knowledgeable of the needs of the equipment and standard procedures for its care and safe operation.
- Must be well groomed and present a good public image.
- Good physical condition as this position requires skiing, hiking, lifting and carrying.
- Heavy and awkward lifting up to 50lbs
- Willingness to work during extreme weather conditions.
- Safety and risk oriented.
- Requires the skills of a host. This involves approaching guests in a courteous manner, inquiring if they have any questions and being able to respond professionally.
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must possess a valid driver's license and meet the Motor Vehicle Record qualifications as outlined in the Fleet Safety Program.

Weather conditions and the number of guests play a large role in the work scheduling of Dodge Ridge employees.
When conditions are normal, you may be expected to work 16 to 32 hours per week, including weekends and holidays. During busy periods and holidays, you may be expected to work six (6) days a week up to 48 hours
You must arrange for transportation to work so that you arrive at your designated workstation at the scheduled time. Keep in mind that you will often be required to drive on hilly, snowpacked, and icy road surfaces.
Working Conditions
At any time during the ski season, Dodge Ridge employees are often required to perform their tasks in high winds, heavy snowfalls, low visibility, rain, and extremely cold or warm temperatures.
Work is typically outside working directly with resort guests and other resort staff members. It can be noisy, cold, wet, or humid. You may be expected to work in high places and frequently you will work around moving objects.
Uniforms
A professional appearance at Dodge Ridge is required. Please always wear your name tag and uniform during your scheduled shift. We will provide most of the uniform for you to do your job. However, you will be required to provide some items as part of your job, as listed below. The quality, color, and style of the items must be approved by your manager prior to being worn to work. All hats worn must have the Dodge Ridge logo while on shift.

Ski equipment must pass a binding function test. Be aware you are responsible for any damage to your equipment while at work
The skiing/riding employee represents a model for safe skiing for both the guest and fellow employees. You are required to be aware of all safe skiing procedures, trail closures, and out-of-bounds policies.
