CDL/Shuttle Driver
This job has high season and low season. During the low season you will be assigned to other tasks that suit your individual skills. These jobs will be assigned once you arrive at Chena and your skills can be assessed. High season can be very stressful when the roads/weather is bad. If you have never driven on poor condition roads this may not be the job for you. There are a wide variety of hazards on the road but if you are a good professional driver that will not be of any concern. You must be able to load luggage on to the bus and lift up to 70# repeatedly and up to 100 times a day.
During the winter time the driving schedule is extremally busy. Holidays are our busiest therefore no holidays are given off. The resort has a variety of vehicles including 44 passenger busses, 21 passenger vans, and 14 passenger vans. In some cases you will be driving a smaller van.
Single/Double occupancy rooms at no cost, Meals are also included. Wi-Fi available for a fee. The following are some of the driver rules and expectations. This list is not meant to be an all inclusive list it just gives you some of the guidelines.
- Must be on company insurance policy.
- Do not park vans in Employee Housing.
- Must plug vans in during winter months.
- If your guests are not at the designated spot, it’s the driver who must go into the location and make a concerted attempt to locate the guests. Including but not limited to; calling the guest, going to the front desk or common area and calling their name, calling the phone number, texting the phone number, any other means to get the guests attention.
- If anything is wrong with the shuttle, notify management immediately.
- Always leave vans locked when not in use.
- Cleanliness of the van is your responsibility.
- Turn in gas receipts in a timely fashion.
- Do not go over the speed limit.
- No smoking, chewing tobacco, or eating during your runs.
- Do not use headphones while driving customers. And do not play any loud or aggressive music.
- Use FareHarbor before and after your trip. Check people in and always ready the notes. Get to know your customers when necessary.
- Check in your guests in FareHarbor before leaving the pickup location.
- Wear a face mask when you are sick.
- Always wear Chena Hot Springs apparel.
- Get out of the van and use the Chena Hot Springs sign to look for all guests.
- Address all guest questions while in the van.
- Direct guests staying at the resort to check- in at Front Desk.
- Direct guests here for a Day Trip to Chena, Northern Lights Tour or Sled Dog Day Tour to locations of Activity Center, Pool House or Dog Yard.
- If picking up employees and they are not ready or not at a specified location, leave. It is up to them to contact Chena for alternate transportation.
- Advise employees to the amount of shopping items they are allowed to carry in the van. This is the equivalent of one large suitcase worth.
- You as the driver are responsible to call out and report any unprofessional behavior from coworkers in the shuttle. This includes: inappropriate touching, intoxication, foul language and gossiping about other staff or Chena business.
- The guests always come first.
- Clock in no more than 45 minutes before your run in the winter and 30 minutes before your run in the summer.
- Clock in 30 minutes before your shift starts. Warm up the van and inform the Front Desk that you are here for your run. Do a vehicle check (tires etc.) and make sure the inside of your van is clean. Check FareHarbor and group chat. When guests get in, please make sure to tell them to fasten their seatbelts. Before you leave, make a roll call and check in guests in FareHarbor.
- If you are coming from town, please message the group chat that you are headed here for your run so everybody knows you are coming and if you are not here at the expected time, we would know something might have happened along the way.
- When picking up guests, please always instruct them to fasten their seatbelts and check them in as soon as you get back in the driver seat. If you have to move because there is another vehicle behind you, please do so but pull over on the side and check them in. If you do this for every stop, this will be automatic for you and chances of you leaving guests behind would be minimal. Always check FareHarbor to make sure you have checked in all the passengers in your manifest.
- Drive 45MPH (less if the roads are bad).
