Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Seasoning and flavor expert and R&D Lab leader to join our dynamic team based in Dallas, TX and supporting the US Business Unit. This role is pivotal in disrupting existing seasoning methods by introducing cutting edge technologies and ingredients, managing R&D projects, and ensuring high-quality product outcomes. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with the snack’s food industry and have expertise on managing the entire seasoning development process from concept to commercialization, need to possess deep knowledge on ingredients, seasoning application, functionality, and working with pork, pellets, and tortilla products are required. Expertise working directly with customers is preferred to better understand and translate consumers’ needs into innovations. Spanish language is desired.


Key Responsibilities


Seasoning Development:

· Formulate and develop new seasoning blends for snack food products, including pork, pellets, and tortilla products.

· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to innovate and improve seasoning applications.

· Conduct sensory evaluations and adjust formulations to meet consumer preferences.

· Disrupt current seasoning methods used in our organization and the industry by introducing cutting edge techniques and ingredients

· Drive breakthrough innovations to enhance taste, texture and consumer appeal

· Oversee the entire seasoning development process from concepts to commercialization


Development of new process technology in collaboration with engineering and technology suppliers:


· Develop and implement new process technologies to apply breakthrough and differentiated seasoning systems that currently don´t exist in the company

· Innovate and experiment with advance applications methods to ensure unique and effective seasoning distributions

· Collaborate with engineering and production teams to design and integrate new processes into existing manufacturing setups


R&D Management:

· Lead the R&D lab team, managing daily operations and ensuring adherence to project timelines.

· Design and execute experiments to test new ingredients and formulations.

· Analyze data and present findings to senior management and other stakeholders.

· Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and quality control protocols.

· Work in collaboration with the product development category leaders to deliver samples for all new products across the different business units


Ingredient Expertise:

· Knowledge on raw materials

o Deep understanding of spices, herbs, flavor enhancer and functional ingredients

o Stay current with industry trends and new ingredient technologies.

· Ingredient Functionality

o Expertise on how different ingredients interact and affect the sensory attributes of snacks, including taste, aroma, mouthfeel and appearance

o Evaluate the functionality of different ingredients and their impact on product quality.

· Supplier relationships

o Ability to source and assess high quality ingredients and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure quality consistency on innovations


Scale up process management:

· Develop and oversee the scale up process for new seasoning for new seasoning formulations from lab to full scale up production

· Collaborate with the product development category leaders to ensure seamless transition and integration of new seasonings into the manufacturing processes

· Optimize production methods to maintain quality and consistency while scaling up seasoning applications

· Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to seasoning application in production.

· Collaborate with production teams to ensure seamless integration of new seasonings into manufacturing processes.


Bilingual Communication:

· Utilize bilingual skills to communicate effectively with diverse team members and external partners.

· Translate technical documents and presentations as needed.

· Present to customers, suppliers and leadership team, executive projects summary and new technology unlocks


Quality Assurance:

· Implement and monitor quality assurance procedures in the R&D lab.

· Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with industry standards.

· Train lab personnel on best practices and quality standards.

· Train lab and R&D Scientists on best seasoning applications methods and techniques

· Manage R&D Lab budget and administer the update of critical instruments or lab equipment


Project Management:

· Plan and manage multiple R&D projects, ensuring on-time delivery and within budget.

· Coordinate with R&D Leadership team, marketing, production, and other departments to align project goals and deliverables.

Requirements:

Required Experience & Skills

· Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, or a related field.

· 5-10 years of experience in seasoning development and application within the snack food industry.

· Proven experience with pork, pellets, and tortilla products.

· Strong project management skills and the ability to lead a team effectively.

· Proficiency in both English and Spanish, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

· In-depth knowledge of ingredient functionality and regulatory requirements.

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.


Preferred Skills:

· Experience with sensory evaluation techniques.

· Familiarity with food safety and quality management systems.

· Proficiency in using laboratory equipment and software for data analysis.

· Customer iterations

o Experience working directly with customers to understand their needs and preferences, and translate these insights into successful seasoning innovations


Working Conditions:

· This position is based in Dallas, TX

· Hybrid, working from our R&D Laboratory, remotely and traveling about 50% of the time to the Pellets, R&D Center in Monterrey, Mexico, as well as our Tortilla and Pork Pellets Manufacturing facilities. This role is expected to visit strategic seasoning suppliers ensuring an agile seasoning development process, traveling for customers’ workshops, leadership meetings, and industry conferences as well.
