Medical Billing and Collection Specialist
Job Summary:
The Medical Billing and Receivables Specialist will have a thorough understanding of patient flow within a medical practice, scrubbing of claims through a third party, how to work denied claims, primary and secondary billing, electronic and paper billing, follow-up on all unpaid claims timely, reporting and trending accounts receivable results, posting payments, and is familiar with CPT and ICD-10 coding. This position works closely with all personnel within our offices, insurance carriers, and our patients. We are looking for a candidate who has a positive mindset and is achievement and goal oriented. Prior ECW experience is a plus.
The Medical Billing Assistant will report directly to the Billing and Collections Supervisor.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Claims submission timely.
Posts payments, contractual write-offs, and patient responsibility timely.
Analyzes claims for accuracy and completeness.
Follows up on all unpaid claims from insurance carrier and patients. Submits statements at least monthly to patients.
Resolves denied claims.
Assist with monthly reviews of insurance website policy updates.
Communicate changing payment trends to Billing and Collections Supervisor.
Consistently strives to reduce accounts receivable days to less than 45 days.
Maintains positive demeanor with staff, patients, and vendors. Professional communication is required.
Strict adherence to HIPAA compliance.
Finds ways to ethically navigate hurdles to reach company goals.
Helps train employees in accordance with company procedures.
Must possess a thorough understanding of commercial and third-party billing.
Qualifications:
Prefer candidates with at least an associate’s degree in healthcare or related field.
Prefer two years of medical billing and collections experience in a primary care setting.
Experience with eClinical Works and Trizetto is a plus.
