Job DescriptionJob Description

Driver will complete day to day scheduled transportations on the CAREshuttle schedule along with day to day courier service for NIHD departments. Driver will work closely with the care coordination team to ensure all patients in need of transportation make it to their medical appointments. Driver will be responsible for the following during the Transportation Coordinators absence: patient registration and scheduling, staff schedule, patient financial/insurance issues & authorization, coordinating the use of the NIHD transportation vehicles, maintenance of vehicles, scheduling of vehicles for patient transports, ensuring all drivers are properly trained and management of driver schedules, organizing out of the area transportation and completing necessary administrative duties. Driver will also be responsible for proper cleaning and washing of vehicles.


  1. Directly responsible to Transportation Coordinator.
  2. Works closely with hospital district leadership and departments as well as internal and external customers.

Works in the general hospital setting. May be exposed to blood, body fluids, or tissues as well as patients in varying stages of infectious states.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Have a valid driver’s license
  • Pass a background check and a driving record check
  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • Minimum of one year of driving experience or other
  • Must know how to utilize a GPS device/ navigation system
  • Must exhibit good communication and people skills
  • Good judgement and decision making skills, positive attitude, flexibility and good problem solving skills

Preferred:

  • Minimum of two year of clinical office experience
  • Experience working in the medical field or hospital setting
  • Experience with wheelchair accessible vehicles
  • Ability to speak, read and write Spanish
