Job Summary:

An abatement technician is responsible for safely removing hazardous materials like asbestos, lead, or mold from various environments. Their job involves assessing and inspecting sites for contamination, following strict safety protocols to remove and manage these materials, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. They prepare and contain work areas to prevent the spread of contaminants, manage waste disposal properly, and maintain detailed records of their work. Effective communication with clients, regulatory agencies, and team members is also crucial, along with a strong focus on safety.


Responsibilities:


  • Safely remove, handle, and dispose of asbestos materials using proper techniques and protective gear.
  • Be highly productive and knowledgeable in the removal of asbestos insulation and related materials.
  • Maintain cleanliness at the jobsite by disposing of trash and unused materials.
  • Utilize cutting methods, including hand tools and powered equipment.
  • Manage hazardous waste in accordance with regulations.
  • Maintain annual certification by a certified trainer for at least 8 hours to meet environmental regulations.
  • Stay updated on industry regulations, best practices, and emerging technologies related to asbestos abatement.
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and health and safety regulations.



Preferred Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional certifications or training in asbestos abatement preferred.
  • Proven experience as an Asbestos Technician or similar role, with a strong understanding of regulations and abatement techniques.
  • Familiarity with inspection, sampling, and testing procedures, including specialized equipment.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and AHERA guidelines.
  • Understanding of containment protocols, decontamination procedures, and PPE requirements.
  • Physical stamina and ability to work in hazardous environments with appropriate protective gear.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
