JOB DESCRIPTION: OUTREACH COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST
PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Outreach Communications Specialist (OCS) role focuses on raising awareness about HIV/AIDS and promoting access to prevention, testing, and treatment services. The OCS will utilize their communication skills to educate and empower communities disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDS.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement culturally competent communication plans to reach target audiences at risk for HIV infection. (This may include materials in multiple languages or tailored to specific demographics.)
- Craft messaging that combats stigma and discrimination surrounding HIV/AIDS.
- Manage social media channels to promote HIV testing events, prevention methods like PrEP, and treatment options.
- Develop and implement strategic communication plans to reach target audiences at risk for HIV infection.
- Measure the impact of outreach campaigns. This may involve tracking website traffic after a social media campaign, monitoring the number of people attending outreach events, or conducting surveys to assess knowledge gained about HIV/AIDS
- Use data analysis to identify what’s working and what needs improvement in future campaigns
- Partner with community organizations to develop and distribute outreach materials (e.g., brochures in local barbershops, informational flyers at bars).
- Coordinate and participate in outreach events, such as health fairs, workshops on safer sex practices, and awareness campaigns.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of HIV/AIDS information disseminated.
- Track and analyze the reach and impact of outreach campaigns, recommending adjustments to maximize engagement.
- Stay informed about the latest developments in HIV/AIDS research, prevention, and treatment.
- Stay up-to-date on industry trends and best practices in outreach communications
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Associate degree in communications, public health, marketing, or a related field (experience working with HIV/AIDS communities a plus).
- 2-5 years of experience in outreach communications, public health education, or a relevant field.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong understanding of culturally sensitive language.
- Proven ability to develop and execute strategic communication plans.
- Experience with social media platforms and content management systems.
- Passion for public health and a commitment to social justice.
- Bilingual (Creole speaking preferred)
