Material Handler

Overview: As a Material Handler, supporting our packaging plant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient flow of materials required for the packaging process. You will be responsible for handling, moving, and organizing packaging materials in accordance with production schedules and quality standards.

Hours: 6am-6pm on a 2-2-3 schedule

Responsibilities:

  1. Safely transport materials to designated storage areas using forklifts, pallet jacks, or other equipment.
  2. Maintain accurate inventory records of packaging materials, including quantities and locations.
  3. Prepare packaging materials for production by staging them at designated workstations.
  4. Assist machine operators and production staff as needed during operations.
  5. Monitor and replenish packaging supplies throughout the production shift to minimize downtime.
  6. Perform routine maintenance tasks on material handling equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  7. Follow established safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries in the workplace.
  8. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains.
  9. Adhere to quality control standards and procedures to ensure the integrity of packaged products.

Requirements:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Prior experience in material handling, preferably in a manufacturing or packaging environment.
  3. Valid forklift operator certification (if applicable).
  4. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling materials.
  5. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  6. Excellent communication skills and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  7. Basic computer skills for data entry and inventory management.
  8. Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime as needed.

Physical requirements and environmental factors:

  • Must be able to work in environmental factors that include noise, dust, hot weather, and cold weather.
  • Must be able to lift 55 pounds.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend stairs, ladders, and gangways on a frequent basis and be able to work while standing on a continuous basis.
  • Ability to safely work aloft (heights over 20') including ladders, man lifts, harnesses, equipment tops and scaffolding.
  • Ability to enter confined spaces, following all safety procedures, while in performance of job duties.
  • Must be able to communicate by using and hearing 2-way radio.
  • Have dexterity and ability to maneuver equipment in tight working spaces
