Summary and Scope of Position:

The Social Media and Digital Content Specialist is responsible for strategizing and creating engaging content for and the daily management of Ursinus College’s primary institutional social media platforms. The Specialist also generates compelling written and digital content for the college’s primary website and serves as a writer who generates articles and stories for online and print publications.

Reporting to the Director of Media and Communications, the Social Media and Digital Content Specialist is a member of the communications and marketing team within the Division of Advancement and External Relations. They support communications and marketing strategies for college-wide initiatives and drive social media strategy to attract and engage target audiences, including prospective students, current students, faculty, staff, alumni, and external community stakeholders.

This individual also supports the college’s video, photo, editorial, and website needs, working collaboratively with the Digital Communications Specialist, Director of Marketing, Director of Web Strategy and Content, creative team, and with managers of the college’s secondary social media platforms.

Successful candidates will be creative, detail-oriented, and data driven, and must thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Create and deploy a comprehensive social media content plan for all of the college’s primary institutional social media platforms to drive engagement with all audiences, enhance the college’s brand recognition, and expand its reach and reputation.
  • Monitor all social media channels for community engagement and respond (where appropriate) to comments, messages, and mentions on platforms in a timely and professional manner.
  • Measure and evaluate the success of social media content and share metrics on campaign performance.
  • Collaborate with managers of the college’s ancillary social media platforms to ensure content produced for those platforms is consistent with the college’s brand and massaging.
  • Monitor social media activity for reputational threats and execute issues management or crisis communications responses via social media in collaboration with the Director of Media and Communications.
  • Assists with disseminating timely institutional messages and talking points across digital platforms.
  • Stay updated on social media trends and best practices, particularly those within higher education, and adapt those trends to the college’s social media strategy.
  • Serve as a writer and generate compelling stories and articles for print and digital publications that capture the accomplishments and experiences of faculty and students.
  • Assist with planning, development, and execution of video and photographic storytelling for social media and other digital communications.
  • Proactively generate and maintain content for the college’s primary website to promote cocurricular programs, faculty, students, and alumni in alignment with brand strategy.
  • Work on special projects as needed, including occasional events on nights and weekends, such as admission events, commencement ceremonies, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in marketing, communications, or related field
  • Experience distilling complex, nuanced information into engaging and understandable social media posts, articles, website copy
  • Must have an interest in contemporary digital storytelling and consider ways to tell a story through video, social media, infographics, and other media spanning all platforms
  • Strong understanding of visual storytelling, branding, web and/or digital marketing
  • Familiarity with the strategic use of social platforms for brand awareness, reputation management, and community engagement
  • A fundamental understanding of social media metrics and how to use data to make informed decisions
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments and produce high-quality work on deadline
  • Ability to work both independently and with teams and proactively solve problems
  • Excellent organizational, time management, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills
  • Basic working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite and/or design and video editing software a plus
