Julington Creek Golf Club located in Saint Johns, Florida is seeking a full time, hourly Spray Technician employee to join our Agronomy team. Pay Rate: $17.00-$20.00 per hour

Job Description:

Performs chemical applications on the golf course and fertilizes tees, greens and fairways; applies chemicals on greens. The Spray Technician is responsible for reading, understanding and keeping current with Safety Data Sheets (SDS). This position is also responsible for compiling preliminary reports of pesticide usage for the Golf Course Superintendent.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Spray prescribed amounts of fertilizer, insecticide, herbicide and fungicide, using hoses and truck-mounted tank, taking care not to injure turf or shrubs.
  • Fill sprayer tank with chemicals and water according to formula, using hose or pump.
  • Pull spray hose from truck mounted reel, turn knob, press lever, and point nozzle selected according to site characteristics, such as type of infestation, wind direction and velocity, and terrain.
  • May use portable spray equipment.
  • Assist superintendent with correct calibrations of all spray equipment.
  • Assist superintendent in planning current and long-range spray programs.
  • Maintain daily spray records.
  • Assist superintendent in maintaining proper chemical inventory.
  • Post notification of any spray application to customers.
  • Responsible for the direct preventive maintenance of all equipment associated with the task of spraying.
  • Read, understand and keep current with all Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Perform routine safety inspections on all spraying equipment.
  • Maintain chemical storage and mixing areas in compliance with county, state and federal regulations.
  • Incorporates safe work practices in job performance

Degree/Licenses:
One to three years golf course experience. Completion of training requirements as demanded by the state and federal governments, including those required by OSHA Hazard Communication Standard. Current state certification or licensing as pesticide applicator.


Physical Demands:

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Regularly required to have full range of mobility in upper and lower body; be able to reach overhead; be able to work in various positions, including stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling and squatting for extended periods of time; be able to lift, pull and push materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks and is frequently able to lift 50 pounds of weight through the work day and occasionally lifts up to 100 pounds. Employee is regularly
exposed to outdoor weather conditions, chemicals, pesticides, gasoline, vibration, mechanical hazards and electrical hazards. Work extended hours during golf season.
