DevOps Engineer


First Due, an industry-leading public safety technology company, is seeking a skilled DevOps Engineer with experience in AWS, PHP, and PostgreSQL-based application architectures to join our team and help lead transformational efforts to adopt DevOps best practices. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in transforming VM configurations to Infrastructure as Code (IaC), containerization, and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines. This role is crucial in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of our cloud infrastructure and software delivery processes.


The Role

As a First Due DevOps Engineer, you will cover the following areas of responsibility:


Infrastructure Management

  • Work with Infrastructure Team to maintain and optimize our existing AWS infrastructure.
  • Transform traditional VM configurations into Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Design and implement scalable, secure, and highly available systems on AWS.


Containerization

  • Develop and manage containerized applications using Docker.
  • Identify opportunities for container orchestration solutions such as Kubernetes or Amazon ECS/EKS.


CI/CD Pipeline Development

  • Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate the deployment process.
  • Work with development teams to ensure smooth integration and delivery of code.
  • Ensure best practices are followed for software development, testing, and deployment.

Monitoring and Logging

  • Manage monitoring and logging systems to ensure system reliability and performance.
  • Maintain and implement alerting mechanisms to proactively address potential issues.


Collaboration and Support

  • Collaborate with software and infrastructure engineers to optimize application performance and scalability.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to development teams on best practices for DevOps.


Security and Compliance

  • Implement and enforce security best practices across our infrastructure.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.

Skills, Experience, and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Proven experience as a DevOps Engineer or similar role.
  • Strong expertise in AWS services and architecture.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or Ruby.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.
  • Hands-on experience with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes or ECS/EKS.
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD concepts and tools (e.g., Github Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, CircleCI).
  • Knowledge of PHP and PostgreSQL, including performance tuning and optimization.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.





RequirementsPreferred Qualifications:
  • AWS certification (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, AWS Certified Solutions Architect).
  • Experience with both monolithic and microservices architectures.
  • Knowledge of security best practices and tools (e.g., AWS IAM, security groups, encryption, Security+).
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
