Key Role Requirements:

  • Monitor the work of contractors to ensure quality control and contract compliance for roadway, structure, and bridge construction projects of moderate to considerable complexity.
  • Monitor and inspect roadway, structure and bridge, and maintenance construction projects of routine to moderate complexity
    • Ensure contractor compliance through review, interpretation and enforcement of plans and contract documents, monitoring and inspecting field work efficiently and in a timely manner
    • Preparation of thorough, accurate project documentation.
  • The Inspector will compute daily pay quantities and prepare field adjustment estimates, inform project management of issues that arise in the field and assist in resolution as directed and contribute feedback to Project Inspector for evaluations for all prime contractors and agreed-upon subcontractors
  • Conduct materials tests to assure all materials meet requirements set forth in the Materials Manual of Instructions, ensure work zones and other safety requirements and environmental permit requirements are met, and ensure that utility work is documented accurately through daily reports.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience as an Inspector
  • Senior Inspectors must have approximately eight (8) years of experience with a focus on highway and transportation related project experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required, Associates degree in civil engineering technology or similar focus preferred
  • Construction experience required
  • General knowledge of surveying methods, equipment and material used in highway construction
  • Working knowledge of mathematics including algebra, geometry and trigonometry
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, contract provisions, and inspection procedures
  • Basic computer skills including use of email, internet, Microsoft office programs and use of iPad
  • Valid drivers' license
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • NCDOT material testing and sampling certification is preferred.
  • Specific certification requirements are:
    • Concrete
    • QMS Roadway (Asphalt)
    • Conventional Density
    • ABC Sampling
    • Erosion & Sediment Control
    • Work Zone Traffic Control
    • Nuclear Gauge Safety

Our employees are the most critical part of ATCS. For this position, we offer a competitive salary range of $17 to $45 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The role is also eligible for overtime and an annual bonus, with a target 2% of the employee's annualized salary.
