Job DescriptionJob DescriptionINTRODUCTIONThis job description outlines the requirements, reporting relationships, authority, responsibilities, and duties for the position of Small Engine Mechanic (Trainee). Summary/ ObjectiveThe position is responsible for training in the field of repair and maintenance of customer-owned small engine machines (Gasoline and diesel). Includes Welding Machines (Miller, Lincoln, Hobart), Portable Generators (Generac, Honda, Champion, etc.), and other 2-stroke small engines (chainsaws, lawn equipment, etc.)Essential Job FunctionsReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions.
  1. Train under the supervision of Senior Small Engine Mechanic and demonstrate proficiency in the following fields
  2. Manage all installation, repairs, and maintenance.
  3. Diagnose errors or technical problems and determine the proper solution
  4. Produce timely and detailed service reports
  5. Keep a record of services, prepare an inventory of stock, and order consumable parts for equipment repair.
  6. Keep the shop clean and orderly
  7. Ensure that all customer questions are answered.
  8. Maintains adherence to all company policies and procedures.
  9. Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures
  10. The ability to frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds.
  11. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Duties and responsibilities
  • Provide service and customer service for equipment repair
  • Comprehend customer requirements and make appropriate recommendations
  • Troubleshooting the equipment
  • Advising customers on how to use the equipment
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications.
  • Protects fellow employees and customers by providing a safe and clean store environment.
  • To contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by management.
Skill, Knowledge, and Abilities:· Knowledgeable in general welding equipment · Skills and ability to directly interface with all members of the workforce and management. · Strong Commitment to Customer Service including positive Professional Verbal and non-verbal Communication Skills. Able to properly interact with customers of all backgrounds.· Strong Time Management Skills, ability to prioritize; complete tasks and assignments promptly, and to seek additional projects and opportunities in down times. · Self-motivated, ability to follow direction and continue training.Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Position type/ Expected hours of workThis is a full-time position and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Required Education and Experience Required: High school or equivalent Experience: Two (2) years of experience and/or training in small engine repair and maintenance shop or any combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position
