Position Summary

You are …

Performs the duties of multiple SMT positions to prepare, verify or place components on Printed Circuit Boards including the positions of Tray Cut, Tray Load, Reel Load, Tray and Reel Verification, and Hand Place. Acts independently to identify bottlenecks or priority work and completes the tasks necessary to meet production goals. Fills in for individuals on PTO, breaks or lunches.

What you’ll need:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Flexibility to work scheduled hours and extra hours as required
  • Operate a computer and basic software at a proficient level
  • Excellent communication skills

What you’ll do:

  • Read and understand manufacturing procedures and other necessary documentation
  • Review all documents on file for the build in the internal system.
  • Segregate discrepant parts and assure they are properly identified.
  • Record all part errors, discrepancies, and questions in the “Hold” database
  • Stop the process if conditions do not ensure quality product
  • Check work of previous process and verify quality of your own work. Report to Leadership any repetitive discrepancy in products.
  • Update the internal Database system
  • Complete the documentation for all work done in the assigned sections.
  • As needed, complete equipment set up and maintenance. Complete and sign all records and logs
  • Tray Cut
  • Regularly clean and inspect trays.
  • Sort SMD components and assign each to trays, reels, or hand place. Update status in software to develop a tray layout and generate additional placement files
  • Using laser cutter, print tray layout and adhere to bare tray. Print report
  • Tray Load/Verification Station
  • Using the written specifications from the customer (BOM), internal software, information contained in the holds system and part datasheets, load components into trays
  • Verify the position, presence and polarity of the component is accurate.
  • Inspect trays for missing parts, shorted parts, wrong parts or part values, incorrect part markings, wrong packages, incorrectly loaded parts, ICs with bent leads, other damage, or parts that don’t fit the footprint, etc
  • Reel Load/Verification Station
  • Determine correct feeder size, for each SMD component assigned to reels, and place in appropriate magazine slot. Load component reels into magazines and feed tape into feeders.
  • Inspect and verify components in magazines against the report. Check for missing parts, wrong parts, incorrect part values, incorrect part markings, wrong packages, incorrectly loaded parts, damaged parts, or parts that don’t fit the footprint, etc.
  • Unload reels and ensure any leftover components are placed back in original packaging.
  • Hand Place Station
  • Set up reflow oven and select correct reflow profile for each circuit board reflowed
  • Using the written specifications from the customer (BOM), internal software, information contained in the holds system and part datasheets, hand place SMD components onto circuit boards
  • Reflow circuit boards.
  • Perform pre-reflow and post-reflow inspections on SMD components according to the BOM, and assembly documentation and identify any issues presented on PCB
  • Record the inspection results on traveler and give feedback to machine operators
