Position Overview: The SMT Industrial Engineer will provide expertise in all aspects of SMT, Through-hole, and Box-Build production. This position requires excellent troubleshooting skills to ensure optimal operational availability in a low-volume, high-mix environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Designs and procures tooling, fixtures, equipment, and manufacturing processes for new and existing products.
  • Ensures Manufacturing processes are cost efficient and achieve quality requirements.
  • Applies Lean Manufacturing principles to create new and improve existing Manufacturing processes (DMAIC, PDCA, FMEA, & SPC).
  • Deploys best practice principles for process control and product yield.
  • Develops detailed Assembly/Test Work Instructions, trains assemblers, and performs certification testing.
  • Reviews performance outcomes, investigates problems, and ensures revisions to documented procedures.
  • Performs detailed Root Cause analysis; develops and implements resulting corrective action plans.
  • Establishes performance measures and metrics, analyzes these metrics to identify and implement performance-based improvements.
  • Supports troubleshooting of Electronic and Electro-Mechanical systems.
  • Confirms quality of new parts and materials for Manufacturing.
  • Support customers and New Product Development to ensure compatibility of processing techniques.
  • Supports Product performance testing and trending analysis.
  • Works cross departmentally to ensure the resolution of problems and action items as needed.
  • Creates an organized and efficient work environment through implementation of Lean Manufacturing and 5-S activities.
  • Provides training and technical support to Engineering Techs, machine operators, assemblers, and maintenance techs.
  • Assures that customer and company standards are being met.
  • Supports and adheres to the Quality Management System..
  • Must be an ITAR Compliant US Person.
  • Performs other duties as necessary to support Operations.

Education and Experience for the SMT IndustrialEngineer:

  • BS Degree in a related Engineering discipline required.
  • Experience working in Electronics or Electro-mechanical fabrication, assembly, and /or test environment; contract manufacturing experience.
  • Must have excellent problem solving skills and possess good analytical, verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic Microsoft office applications, CAD software, MRP/ERP, and scheduling software.
  • Good analytical skills, possess critical thinking, decision making and problem-solving skills, Such as Lean manufacturing principles (5S, 5-why, Kaizen, Just-in-time, problem solving, root cause analysis, etc.).
  • Experience with customers on identifying and suggesting DFx opportunities; experience with Valor DFx analysis tools is a plus.
  • Experience should include working with all SMT and Box-Build processes.
  • Experience with RoHS and familiar with IPC-610 and J-STD-001 workmanship standards.
  • Strong leadership and coaching/mentoring skills
  • Strong organizational and communication skills - written and verbal
  • Must demonstrate flexibility, self-direction, and self-discipline to plan and accomplish objectives and meet deadlines with limited supervision.
  • Exhibits a “Can-Do” attitude and actively seeks for solutions to problems; good team player with pleasant personality.
  • Lean and/or Six Sigma Certification preferred.
  • SMTA Certified Process Engineer preferred.
