The Substation and Transmission Electrical Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and detailed cost estimates for the construction, upgrade, and maintenance of electrical substations and transmission systems. This role requires extensive knowledge of electrical engineering principles, construction practices, and cost estimation techniques. The estimator will collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, contractors, and suppliers to ensure project estimates are comprehensive and competitive.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Cost Estimation:

    • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for substation and transmission projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
    • Analyze project plans, specifications, and other documents to identify project requirements and scope.
    • Utilize estimating software and tools to develop cost models and prepare bid proposals.
  2. Project Evaluation:

    • Conduct site visits and assessments to gather necessary information for accurate estimation.
    • Evaluate project risks and develop contingency plans to mitigate potential cost overruns.
    • Review and analyze historical data, previous estimates, and actual costs for continuous improvement in estimating accuracy.
  3. Collaboration and Communication:

    • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment on project scope, costs, and timelines.
    • Communicate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain pricing and availability information.
    • Prepare and present estimate reports and summaries to management and clients.
  4. Documentation and Compliance:

    • Maintain organized and up-to-date project files and documentation.
    • Ensure estimates comply with industry standards, regulations, and company policies.
    • Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes impacting cost estimation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field; or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical estimation, specifically in substation and transmission projects.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, construction practices, and cost estimation principles.
  • Proficiency in using estimating software and tools (e.g., Trimble, Bluebeam, Accubid).
  • Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
