z/OS System Programmer

Hansen Talent Group is hiring a remote Senior z/OS System Programmer to work for a large enterprise in SC

What You'll Do:

• Offer advanced technical expertise at a senior level for decisions and priorities related to the enterprise's overall systems architecture. Play a crucial role in analyzing and recommending enhancements to infrastructure, architecture, applications, and performance. Provide intricate and essential knowledge crucial for shaping vision and strategies within the IT organization.
• Act as a technical expert resource within IT for planning, strategizing, and developing resource requirements and direction for applications, architecture, and/or infrastructure. Assess and design system software and hardware builds, analyzing system options, risks, cost-benefit considerations, and the impact on enterprise business processes and goals. Develop and document the framework for integration and implementation of changes to technical standards.
• Offer expert technical guidance to project teams as needed. Evaluate vendor-supplied software packages and provide recommendations to IT management. Collaborate with Project Leads to provide input on proposals that could potentially impact systems. Conduct sizing on proposed new services and systems through simulations of system configurations and capacity modeling for multiple platforms to establish capacity requirements.
• Evaluate customer requests, security patches, and audit requirements for additions or changes to systems. Assess feasibility to determine how to handle requests while maintaining an adequate overall systems infrastructure. Review system capabilities, workflow, and scheduling limitations to determine if requested changes are possible. Ensure data integrity and space requirements are met across various platforms. Provide necessary data to ensure reliability and availability of platforms to meet business objectives.

Required Skills and Abilities:

• Strong analytical and logical thinking skills.
• Comprehensive understanding of operating systems and foundational architecture.
• Expert knowledge in systems programming, graphical user interfaces, control languages, development, quality assurance, integration methodologies, and the use of current programming productivity tools.
• Expertise in analyzing system software, tools, technologies, and/or products, with the ability to make recommendations for performance enhancements.
• Thorough understanding of the implications of multiple systems software products.
