Overview:
The Graphic Artist is responsible for creating visual concepts, designs, and artwork to communicate ideas and messages effectively. They utilize their artistic skills and creativity to develop graphics for a variety of mediums, including print, digital, and multimedia platforms. This position will require deployment to disaster areas. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will require the individual to deploy to a covered disaster are within 48 hours of notification.
The deployment areas will cover FEMA regions 3 & 4, Delaware, DC, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky, and Tennessee.
Job Summary:
- Graphic Design: Create visually appealing designs, illustrations, and layouts for various projects, including logos, brochures, posters, websites, social media graphics, and advertising materials.
- Concept Development: Collaborate with clients, marketing teams, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements, objectives, and target audience, and develop creative concepts and design solutions that align with their needs and preferences.
- Typography: Select appropriate fonts and typography styles to enhance readability, convey the desired tone and message, and create visually engaging designs.
- Image Editing: Edit and manipulate photographs, illustrations, and other images to enhance their quality, composition, and impact, using software such as Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator.
- Branding: Develop visual identities and brand guidelines, including logos, color palettes, and brand elements, to maintain consistency and coherence across all brand communications.
- Layout Design: Arrange text, images, and other visual elements within a layout or composition to create a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing design that effectively communicates the intended message.
- Digital Media: Create graphics and animations for websites, social media platforms, email campaigns, and digital advertising campaigns to engage audiences and drive user interaction.
- Print Production: Prepare designs for print production, including selecting appropriate printing methods, specifying print specifications, and ensuring print-ready files are delivered to vendors.
- Quality Assurance: Review and proofread designs to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with brand standards, technical specifications, and project requirements.
- Stay Updated: Keep abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and design best practices to continuously improve skills and stay ahead of the curve in graphic design.

Skills & Abilities:
- Proficiency in graphic design software, such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), and other relevant tools.
- Strong understanding of design principles, typography, color theory, and composition.
- Excellent creativity and artistic skills, with the ability to generate innovative ideas and concepts.
- Attention to detail and a keen eye for aesthetics and visual trends.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work well in a team environment and interact with clients and stakeholders.
- Time management and organizational skills to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Adaptability and willingness to learn new techniques and technologies in graphic design.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Willingness to travel and work in disaster-affected areas for extended periods, often in challenging conditions.
- Live within driving distance of a metropolitan airport.
Additional Skills (Preferred):
- Experience with motion graphics and video editing software (e.g., Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro).
- Knowledge of web design principles and front-end development languages (e.g., HTML, CSS).
- Familiarity with 3D modeling and rendering software (e.g., Blender, Cinema 4D).
- Understanding of user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design principles.
- Experience with illustration and hand-drawing techniques.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in graphic design or a related field and 5 years of experience in a related field or 10 years of experience in graphic design or in a related field.
- Proven experience as a graphic artist or designer, with a strong portfolio showcasing creative projects and design skills.

Must be able to obtain and sustain a Public Trust clearance.
