Experienced Arc Welder. Perform difficult and specialized setup and all-position welding on a wide range of metals and alloys requiring a high degree of skill and welding technique or involving a considerable number of parts and/or smaller more complicated weldments where alignment, dimensions, and weld quality must conform to strict dimensional, general inspection and test requirements. Proceed with minimum supervision and direction. Work is subject to final inspection and test. Typically requires technical training in welding and 2+ years of experience, or equivalent.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Read blueprints or work orders and inspect metal workpieces to plan work.
  • Performs top-quality welds in all positions (Flat, horizontal, vertical up/down, overhead).
  • Fabricates quality workmanship free from defects to pass inspection.
  • Ability to operate welding machines, and adjust gases, speed, and wire.
  • Understands the process of preheating workpieces prior to welding or bending, using a torch.
  • Positions and secures workpieces, using a hoist, crane, wire and banding machine, hand tools, clamps together, or assembles in jigs or fixtures.
  • Examines workpiece for defects and measures workpiece with straightedge or template to ensure conformance with specifications.
  • Selects, positions, and secures torch, cutting tips, or welding rod, according to type, thickness, area, and the desired temperature of the metal.
  • Selects and installs torch, torch tip, filler rod, and flux, according to welding chart specifications or type and thickness of metal.
  • Chips or grinds off excess weld, slag, or spatter, using a hand scraper or power chipper, portable grinder, or arc-cutting equipment.
  • Ability to operate all equipment: Overhead crane, Forklift, Saw, punch, shear, brake, plate roller, and hand tools in a responsible manner and in conformance to safety.
  • Determines required equipment and welding methods, applying knowledge of metallurgy and welding techniques.
  • Maintains equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Ability to lift 50# or more and stand/kneel for long periods of time.
  • Accurately and properly records time and/or materials in the ERP system.
  • Follows all company safety policies and procedures and maintains safe working habits to avoid injuries.
  • Always wear proper protective attire and equipment.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE


  • Completed welding degree from a vocational or technical school.
  • 1-3 years minimum experience.
  • Previous history of consistent attendance and working on time daily.


ATTENDANCE AND RELIABILITY

 

  • Does not abuse or take advantage of Personal Time Off.
  • Always provide proper notification and advance notices of absences.
  • Reports to work on time each day and does not abuse lunch periods or breaks.
