Job DescriptionJob Description It is the role of the Electrical Mechanical Engineer is to meet or exceed Kreher quality standards by providing support to the engineering team, including the duties relative to designing, engineering, programming, and troubleshooting of all Egg farm equipment, systems and processes.


The main objective of the Electrical Mechanical Engineer work is to:

  • Design, develop, implement, and analyze technical products and systems under minimal supervision.
  • Under minimal supervision, working with the Director of Engineering, develop solutions to complex problems related to engineering and maintenance. Have a basic understanding of mechanical, chemical, and electrical engineering concepts and be able to research relevant information for problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Perform system design activities including system design specifications, piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs), logic diagrams, process flow calculations and diagrams, hydraulic resistance calculations, equipment sizing, FMEA evaluations, and thermodynamic and heat/fluid flow transfer.
  • Perform technical activities including basic design, selection of components, fabrication, mechanical assembly, precision alignment, modification, troubleshooting, and repair of egg processing equipment.
  • Research and remain knowledgeable and current about applicable engineering codes and standards, local, State and Federal building permits and regulations, and Company directives.
  • Participates with Operations and Maintenance departments and other Engineering staff in problem solving efforts to improve safety, efficiencies, cost controls and protection of the environment.
  • Prepare and review detailed design drawings and specifications for mechanical equipment, dies, tools, and controls, using computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment.
  • Writes standard work and / or SOPs for new processes.
  • Troubleshoot issues with automated programming, PLC, HMI which includes Setup, configure, & maintain ethernet controlled equipment.
  • working knowledge of field instrumentation. This includes but is not limited to IO design as it pertains to the field instruments and electrical connections to the automation system.
  • Create equipment Bill of Materials (BOM) and make recommendations for spare parts needed in the preventative maintenance schedule.
  • Provide equipment training to Supervisors, Lead Personnel, Shift Trainers, and other staff as needed.
  • Fine tunes new or existing PLC programs and Scada Systems to make more efficient and / or solve problems.
  • Looks for opportunities to eliminate re-work, waste, etc., and informs management of potential hazards.
  • Manage expenses associated with maintaining building and grounds including equipment repair, preventive maintenance, technology enhancements, and upkeep of facility and surrounding area.


An individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required:

  • Knowledge and experienced with electrical systems, electronic systems, and mechanical systems and how they interact with each other.
  • Experienced with installing, trouble shooting and maintaining control and alarm systems.
  • Ability to read, program, upgrade and troubleshoot PLC ladder logic or other PLC-based code to resolve complex problems and/or optimize machine performance.
  • Read and create schematics and P&IDs
  • Experience and proficient with AutoCAD.
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook as well as other work-related software.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and report technical information.
  • Has an expertise of commonly used electrical engineering concepts, practices, and procedures within an agricultural or similar environment.
  • Is a lifelong learner with an attitude of continuous learning about the engineering of various equipment, systems and processes utilized on the farm.
  • Has strong interpersonal skills; able to work well with all colleagues.
  • Will be required to work extended hours as needed, available for emergency response.
  • Must be willing to travel between Buffalo and Wayne County


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, Mechanical, industrial Engineering, or related field equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years electrical / mechanical engineering maintenance experience or experience in an agricultural or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with PLC & Scada programming.
