EXEMPTION STATUS: Non-exempt


POSITION SUMMARY: The Weatherization Inspector is responsible for the determination of initial eligibility requirements of potential dwellings, initial inspections and work scope write-ups of work to be performed on client homes to be weatherized by ECKAN. This position works closely with the Weatherization Director.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform initial inspection on potential homes.
  • Perform diagnostic furnace tests on all heating units in client’s homes during initial inspections to ensure the health and safety of the clients.
  • Perform blower door tests to measure the amount of air infiltration into the home.
  • Monitor scheduling of contractor work to make sure that the clients are served in a timely manner.
  • Document all change orders and re-works on all client homes.
  • Ensure that all necessary client paperwork is completed and in the client file; (i.e. basic intake, fuel release, social security release, release of information authorization, building weatherization report (BWR), residency and income verification, appeals form, rental agreement, etc.)
  • Responsible for the maintenance of assigned equipment and vehicles.
  • Counsel families on the efficient use of energy and how to properly utilize the improvements made by Weatherization.
  • Share Responsibilities for Kansas WAP monitoring and reviewing homes with monitor.
  • Perform all other weatherization duties as assigned by the Weatherization Director.


ADDITIONAL:

  • Attend state inspectors training workshops and obtain all required WAP certifications.
  • Assist clients with completing regarded paper work during the initial client interview.
  • Work with contractors in the area of quality of work performed and change orders.
  • Record measurements and perform a number of mathematical calculations, such as square footage, length, etc., as they relate to the home being inspected.
  • Maintain records and ensure that ECKAN’s Weatherization program is in compliance with all federal and state regulations.
Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Must be certified, or be able to be certified by ECKAN, through the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation (KHRC) for weatherization inspections, heating sources, cooling measures and lead safe work practices under KWAP State Training Plan.
  • Preferred experience in construction and furnace knowledge but not required.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Must be willing to stay overnight for training purposes.
  • Must have a valid Kansas driver’s license.
  • Must be able to stand extreme temperature differentiation, climb ladders and lift 50 pounds or more
  • Capable of working in dusty conditions, including short-term exposure to various insulating materials.
  • Must be able to go into attics and crawl spaces.
  • Computer knowledge.
  • Employment is contingent on successfully passing required background checks.
