Job Summary
Maintenance Mechanics ensure efficient, high-quality operation of our industrial Packaging machinery. You will be responsible for maintaining, monitoring, testing, analyzing, updating, repairing troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance of industrial Packaging equipment. Our mechanics work in a safe and responsible manner following established procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of engines, motors, electrical systems, pneumatic systems, hydraulic systems, conveyor systems, and production machinery
- Working knowledge of Packaging machines used in production: unscramblers, bottle cappers, bottle labelers, case erectors, palletizers, and others
- Follows diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications
- Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments
- Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts
- Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts; using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments
- Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges
- Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment
- Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests
Skills and Abilities:
- MUST have experience working with electricity
- Mechanical experience with industrial manufacturing machinery or equivalent relevant experience
- Understanding of production procedures
- Experience with equipment changeovers
- Perform a proper Lockout Tag out and be safety conscious at all times
- Ability to multi-task
- Attention to detail
- Teamwork and communication skills
- Analytical and numerical skills
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- Physical stamina, strength, and ability to perform maintenance on industrial machinery
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must pass pre-employment drug screening
- Must pass pre-employment background check (TWIC credentialing standards apply)
Work Environment
This job operates in a non-temperature-controlled industrial plant environment. These conditions can vary from hot and cold extremes. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving production machinery and vibration. Moderate noise can be expected from forklifts, machinery, trains and trucks. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. Regular work will be performed near other workers and production machinery.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking up to 8 – 10 hours per day
- Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery
- Must be able to visually inspect machines
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds at chest height
