What you'll Do

The Sr. Tax Specialist will provide excellent customer service to all internal/external payroll clients by processing all quarterly returns and adjustments, while ensuring that all Federal, State, and local, agency filings are completed accurately and in a timely and efficient manner. The Sr. Tax Specialist is also responsible for pre and post quarter end workflows and validating that client data is compliant with company policies and agency regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Process payroll customers quarterly tax filings and returns for federal, state, and local agencies accurately and on time.
  • Complete any pre-work that is required is completed prior to the filing of returns/payments and that the data is compliant with company policies and governmental regulations and requirements.
  • Complete any post or follow-up work that is required to correct data or agency filings is done accurately, expeditiously and within department and/or agency timeframes and deadlines.
  • Work with tax agencies and branches to move client data (payments) as needed and follow up and verification of receipt of filings, etc.
  • Assist company staff with questions or issues pertaining to filings, reporting, entity changes, etc.
  • Support internal/external clients via email, chat and/or phone interaction
  • Assist other team members across the department with issues, overflow and backup all essential functions within the department
  • Interacts professionally with outside vendor/agencies when necessary
  • Create, correct, and prepare amended tax returns
  • Research and answer tax notice questions
  • Maintain system changes for rates, entity, id, and POA updates
  • Process lost client refunds monitor NSF transactions, prior period adjustments and requests from notice, create and or file (daily/monthly) returns & checks (e-file & paper)
  • Process tax payments on customers behalf
  • Other duties or projects as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years payroll tax experience
  • Prior experience with multi-state payroll and taxes
  • Experience preparing and amending federal, state, and local tax returns
  • Two or more years in a customer service environment
  • Ability to work extended and/or flexible hours, including weekends as needed
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
