Job Summary:

The Staff Accountant will assist in the preparation of the monthly financial close to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, results of operations, and other related financial activities. This position will have billing and accounts receivable responsibilities, as well as duties in general ledger and reconciliations. This position requires organizational skills and attention to detail.

Job Responsibilities:


  • Perform accurate data entry of financial information into accounting software.
  • Prepare periodic (monthly) journal entries in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Reconcile and analyze all asset and liability accounts on a monthly basis and investigate any discrepancies.
  • Review and analyze all revenue and expense accounts, identify any variances from budget expectations.
  • Reconcile bank accounts monthly, and verify that all deposits are classified and recorded correctly.
  • Invoice Business Services vendors weekly/monthly in QuickBooks, and record revenue in general ledger software, Abila MIP.
  • Apply cash receipts to invoices.
  • Provide external auditors with assistance during the annual fiscal audit; gather necessary account information and documents to perform the audit.
  • Utilize Excel spreadsheets to analyze financial data and create reports as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Controller or CFO.

Education & Experience:


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business required.
  • Two years of accounting experience required.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

 

  • Basic understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Strong understanding of accounts receivable, and general ledger functions.
  • Highly proficient with accounting software; Abila MIP accounting software for nonprofits and/or QuickBooks experience a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to create and maintain spreadsheets.
  • Experience working in a nonprofit setting is a plus.
