Job DescriptionJob Description

The Shear Operator operates a metal shear to cut and punch metal plates and sheets according to designs and specifications.

  • Read and interpret customer designs and specifications.
  • Set up and operate metal shear.
  • Record and monitor material usage.
  • Verify conformance of metal pieces to specifications, measure and inspect work using rules, gauges or templates.
  • May operate forklift to move materials to work areas and storage areas.
  • Follow all established quality guidelines.
  • Follow all established safety guidelines.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Ability to use basic tools such as a tape measure. Qualified candidates should be able to measure down to 1/32nd.
  • Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions. Qualified candidates should be able to convert fractions to decimals.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions.
  • Ability to review designs and drawings (blueprints).
  • Strong attention to detail in measurements and design specifics.
  • Requires good judgment, and ability to work with others and perform other tasks as assigned.
  • Previous work with structural steel and sheet metal.
  • Experience operating a forklift is a plus.
