SUMMARY: Evaluates patients regarding the application of a wide variety of therapeutic techniques for rehabilitation of speech, language, hearing, swallowing, and oral motor disorders.

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION:

1. Examines, diagnoses, and administers treatments for patients with speech, language, hearing, and/or swallowing disorders.

2. Performs evaluations with special attention to receptive and expressive language skills, speech fluency, vocal and oral motor competence, articulation and swallowing auditory skills.

3. Develops appointment schedules to have the maximum feasible therapeutic impact on the patient.

4. Maintains active and support communication with the patient regarding progress, problems, home programs, and other issues related to the therapeutic process.

5. Accepts and performs assignments outside the Hospital through the Continu-Care program.

6. Supports Department Director in maintaining an inventory of supplies and equipment.

7. Attends patient care staffing, conferences, and other related meetings as assigned.

8. Performs internal and external public education functions which may include periodic in-service presentations.

9. Adheres to established department policies, procedures, objectives, safety, and continuous quality improvement projects.

10. Participates in educational programs and inservice meetings.

11. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.


QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Masters degree in Speech-Language-Pathology from an ASHA approved program or equivalent.

LICENSE: Missouri license from Board of Registration for the Healing Arts or eligible through CFY.

CREDENTIALS: Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech-Language-Pathology preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Completion of CFY.

ONGOING: Successful completion of 90 day evaluation, all periodic competency assessments and annual re-evaluations.

SPECIAL:

PATIENT CONTACT: Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. Must be able to assess and interpret data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's age specific needs and provide the care needed by the pediatric, adolescent, adult, or geriatric patient in regard to communication and/or swallowing abilities.

PHYSICAL:

STANDING &

WALKING: Must have the ability to ambulate throughout Hospital including all floors and between the Hospital and ReStart building.

LIFTING: Minimum lifting required.

VISUAL: Vision correctable to 20/20.

HEARING: Hearing within normal limits.

SPEAKING: Essential to interact with patients, physicians, and co-workers.
