The primary role of Documentation Tech is to create, modify, distribute and manage all aspects of our company documentation. This documentation will include quality/ISO forms and procedures, manufacturing work instructions, department procedures, and quality specifications.

The Documentation Tech will create new procedures and MWIs by working closely with subject matter experts to gather all details of the process of procedure being captured. The Documentation Tech will translate those details into written documents which may include pictures or diagrams. The final products will be used for training and recording all procedures within the company.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

Typical duties for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Create new and modify existing procedures, quality documentation, and manufacturing work instructions. This to be done while comparing to customer supplied drawings and specifications against company standards and information contained within our ERP system.
  • Organize and manage the document control system to ISO standards.
  • Recognize / identify current company internal process gaps, develop and implement solutions relating to the ISO/QMS system.
  • Route and track documents needing approval
  • Maintain revisions levels of documents and ensure changes are tracked via the proper process (ECN / PCN).
  • Assist any and all departments and their documentation needs.
  • Work to continuously improve all procedures – be involved in continuous improvement initiatives to improve said documentation, standardizing whenever and wherever possible.
  • Assist in customer, supplier ISO audits as needed.
  • Approve or deny document changes in accordance with the QMS system.
  • Provide administrative assistance to Project Management / Stage Gate program tied to New Project Launch Process

COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong and well-developed writing skills are required.
  • Ability to translate actions into words
  • Well versed and experienced in writing software (Word, Adobe, Excel, etc.)
  • Ability to read and understand engineering documents and drawings.
  • General understanding of BOM structure, routings, and general manufacturing processes.
  • Able to work independently, must be a self-starter and driven to meet deadlines.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate concisely both through written and verbal interactions.
  • Basic understanding of ISO 9001 preferred, will train.

PREFERRED AND REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree or 4+ years in Manufacturing environment preferred.

Experience and/or Training: Prior experience in a similar role is desired, knowledge of ISO 9001 standards is preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills is required.

Licenses/Certificates: No requirements

Technology/Computer Equipment: Demonstrated knowledge in the use of current technology, high level of comfort in MS office products, especially word or other like software is critical.

Communication: The ability to read, speak, and comprehend English is required. Ability to perform all required tasks in Spanish is desired.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • This position spends a majority of time in an office setting but must be able to work in the plant environment for extended periods of time periodically.
  • It is necessary to occasionally climb stairs
  • 20 lbs. occasional lifting is required.
  • Manual dexterity is required to perform normal day to day functions.
  • Ability to wear appropriate PPE in appropriate areas.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

The main working environment for this position is the standard climate-controlled office environment. Occasionally, this position will be exposed to the plant environment. The plant environment will vary and exposure to heat, cold, noise, and odors is to be expected. PPE is required in designated areas throughout the plant. In rare cases this position may be exposed to outdoor conditions for short periods of time and travel to suppliers or customers may be required. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an individual would encounter while performing the essential functions of this position.
