POSITION SUMMARY

• Under general supervision, the Dietitian is responsible for providing optimal nutritional care to patients, which compiles with the Joint Commission and the standards of care in the dietetic profession.

• Responsible for the medical nutrition therapy of patients; nutritional assessment, nutrition care plans, patient visitation, inpatient/outpatient diet counseling, consults regarding advance nutrition support, as well as assist in other areas related to the Food Services Department

OVERVIEW

• The evaluation is to assure individual performance, departmental goals and organizational goals are aligned. It is designed to support communication between the manager and the employee. Employee perception of their own performance is very important. To maximize the benefit of this process, both the manager and the employee participate in the evaluation process.

B. Education

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Nutrition/Dietetics required.

• CNSD Certification and/or MS highly desirable

C. Licensure

• Registration with American Dietetic Association required

• CNSD Certification Highly desirable

D. Experience

• Minimum six (6) months experience in acute care hospital

E. Interpersonal skills

G. Essential physical requirements

• Sedentary: Exert 10 – 15 lb. of force occasionally and/or up to 5 lb. of force frequently - 1-75%

• Medium: Exert 20 – 50 lb. of force occasionally and/or up to 15 lb. of force frequently - < 25%

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

• Below are those tasks, duties, and responsibilities that comprise the means of accomplishing the position’s purpose and objectives. These are critical or fundamental to the performance of the position. They are the major functions for which the person in the position is held accountable. Following are the essential functions of the position, along with the corresponding performance standards.

o Performs nutritional assessments and nutrition screens, which are appropriate and timely per established policies and procedure.

o Develops nutrition care plans and monitors patient response to care plan developed.

o Provides inpatient discharge diet instructions.

o Keeps thorough and updated information on patient profile sheets.

o Provides diet consultations as ordered by physicians.

o Attends dietitian’s meeting and Food Services department meetings.

o Collaborates with physician and nursing to deliver quality nutrition care.

o Visits patients with special dietary needs.

o Documents clinical productivity.

o Provides billing for patient nutritional services.

o Provides needed in-services as assigned.

o Answers telephone and provide copies as required.

o In absence of Director, supervises the department.

o As requested participates in teaching for community education classes or participates in health fairs

o Performs other job related duties as assigned by the Dietary Director
