Summary

A teacher at HCP provides a Christian based education to preschool students age two and a half to five.The teacher is responsible for supervision of students in their care.The teacher must understand and comply with the legal requirements of Wisconsin Administrative Code, DCF 251, Licensing Rules for Group Child Care Centers.

Duties

  • Plan, implement and supervise the daily activities of the students.Set the general “tone” of the classroom.Plan and initiate the routines, projects, food experiences and other learning experiences within the classroom.
  • Collaborate with the HCP Administrator/Director regarding the overall curriculum for the classroom, including the overall objectives, classroom themes and religious education throughout the year.
  • Coordinate with the HCP Administrator/Director and other HCP Staff to manage the classroom supplies, material needs, instruction and resources available.
  • Nurture a Christian foundation in the classroom and beyond by exhibiting Christian values and using teaching opportunities to reinforce those values.These values should be evident in relating with the students, parents/guardians/caregivers and colleagues.These values should also be integrated into the curriculum.
  • Communicate with family members regarding each student’s progress, needs and behavior.Address questions and concerns with individual families.
  • Create monthly calendars, ongoing outreach, emails and newsletters for distribution to the parents.
  • Maintain a pleasant atmosphere in the classroom with attention paid to decoration, set-up and overall appearance.
  • Participate in staff meetings and staff retreats as determined by the Preschool Administrator/Director or Pastors.
  • Positively promote and represent HCP within the HCLC community and the community at-large.
  • Assist with the Christmas program, Open Houses and other extracurricular needs (e.g. Stay and Play) as determined by the HCP Administrator/Director.
  • Maintain compliance with Wisconsin State Licensing requirements.
  • Seek to improve experience level through meaningful professional development opportunities.
  • When applicable, supervise designated assistant preschool teacher or volunteer(s) while working in a cooperative effort.


Requirements

  • Shall be at least eighteen years of age and have completed high school or its equivalent as determined by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
  • A minimum education of 2 non-credit department-approved courses in Early Childhood Education.
  • A minimum work experience of not less than eighty working days as a full-time assistant child care teacher or one hundred twenty working days as a half-time assistant child care teacher.
  • Maintain current adult, infant and child CPR and AED certification.
  • Must attend approved seminar on Child Abuse and Child Neglect and Abusive Head Trauma Prevention.
  • Holds the values of a Christ centered life.

The minimal requirements for education and experience are designated as the requirements of the State of Wisconsin for a teacher in Early Childhood Education in a non-public school.The standards at Holy Cross Preschool for a teacher go beyond the state guidelines.Whenever possible, Holy Cross Preschool employs teachers whose educational background exceeds the State of Wisconsin’s minimal requirements.The ideal candidate will have a college degree or the equivalent in Early Childhood Education and 2+ years experience.
