Castle Wholesalers is a retail warehouse superstore for kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, windows, doors, and more, featuring in-stock products, expert design, and reliable service at value prices. Castle aspires to be the first choice of contractors and consumers. After starting as a single location 60 years ago, Castle was acquired by Home Surplus in 2022, and is now part of a 5 store network in NJ and MD that is rapidly growing into a national footprint.

 

Position

The District Manager is accountable for all aspects of sales and operations in the Maryland District, which currently includes 2 stores (Brentwood and Baltimore), and is poised to grow exponentially in the next 24 months. The position will grow as the district grows.

 

Primary Responsibility

Contribute to and execute the annual business plan to achieve rapid revenue and profit growth via:

  • Providing inspirational leadership, clear direction, and proactive follow-up to build and ensure consistent, excellent execution of all processes.
  • Being present in stores to drive focus on people, customer service, process improvement, systems upgrades, etc.
  • Anticipating and proactively solving issues.
  • Leveraging both data and personal observations to provide transparent communication up and down, accurate assessment of resources needed to drive the business, and timely follow up.
  • Serving as second chair on business development calls with outside sales associates.

 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Recruiting, onboarding, retaining, and developing store leadership teams while building a bench for future growth.
  • Ensuring outstanding customer experiences that drive repeat and referral business.
  • Optimizing team culture and cooperation.
  • P&L oversight.
  • Mastering the company product screen, while also learning how our products and service capabilities compare in the competitive landscape in order to remain current on merchandising trends and anticipate product and service demands from customers in the market.
  • Using and teaching company systems to communicate with precision and drive process efficiency.
  • Ensuring workplaces that are welcoming, clean, safe, and accident-free.
  • Maintaining compliance with all state, local and federal regulations.

 

Requirements

  • Proven experience leading multi-location territories in big-ticket retail, warehouse showroom, or distribution environments with many skus, customers, and types of customers.
  • Approaches the business with an entrepreneurial sense of ownership.

  • Comfortable enough with technology to teach others. MUST haves include:
    • Salesforce
    • Microsoft 365
    • ERP systems – we use Counterpoint and are transitioning to NetSuite
    • Payroll/Timecard systems – we use ADP.

  • Preference for a blend of experience in startup and/or rapid growth multi-channel organizations, as well as mature organizations with established processes.

Physical/Environmental Requirements: 

Work is performed in a showroom/warehouse retail environment during traditional retail business hours, as well as in a home office.  Physical requirements include:

  • Extended periods of time working at a computer.
  • Extended periods of time walking and standing.
  • Speaking in person, on the phone, and by video.
  • Constant travel in the local market. Occasional travel to company meetings, usually in the Mid-Atlantic / Northeast. MUST HAVE a reliable vehicle, valid drivers license, and current auto insurance.
