POSITION DESCRIPTION

Title: IT Systems Specialist

Purpose: This position is responsible for communicating system design; implementing and maintaining applications and database server hardware to ensure reliability, security and performance. Responsibilities include monitoring, supporting and troubleshooting all aspects of technology systems and devices including but not limited to configuring hardware and software installation, maintaining, repairing, upgrading, and testing of hardware and software programs.

This position is expected to effectively collaborate with other departments and outside vendors to timely identify IT problems and perform maintenance to keep programs and hardware systems functioning properly.

Reports to: Information Technology Manager

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide support for servers and the requirements of the infrastructure. Capable of resolving and enhancing hardware and software of Servers, PCs/laptops/mobile devices executing system administrator responsibilities.
  • Provides day-to-day technical systems support to team IT staff and users for all admin and maintenance applications.
  • Deploy updates, patches and security fixes for both servers and applications.
  • Monitor Server Preformance and Optimatization to meet application performance.
  • Implement and Maintain server level security measures including firewall and access controls.
  • Conduct daily backup audits and inform in writing any finding errors to Metro ITS.
  • Manage user account permissions and access and data protection.
  • Collaborate with other IT team members and staff for systems support including software upgrades and system testing for go-live functionality.
  • Provide IT project management oversight for hardware/software installations as assigned.

Support System Analyst and Help Desk functions

  • Respond to requests from DTO employees for computer assistance and troubleshooting on software, laptops, workstations, desk phones, printers and other network-attached devices received by phone or email or in person.
  • Log requests received in person and by phone in the mta.tech.support email box for service tracking purposes.
  • Perform PC-based hardware and software support for DTO employees.
  • Act as an information resource to employees concerning computer and software applications; research and resolve problems.
  • Provide IT support for MTA and RTA Board and Committee meetings as assigned.
  • Maintain software and hardware inventory for state of good repair.
  • Install peripherals, including hard drives, monitors, keyboards, printers, scanners, copiers, etc. Provide administration and support for video conferencing.
  • Resolve reported and identified software issues promptly.
  • Determine requirements and technical specifications for PC desktop/laptop hardware and Mobile hardware/services, and deploy hardware.
  • Communicate new account needs to Metro ITS including application access, desk/computer setup, email mailbox creations, and phone extension assignments.
  • Order and setup company mobile phones, instruct the employee how to use the phone.
  • Move, add, change user equipment as needed.
  • Guide end users on usage, security, access, and tweaking of applications and software.
  • Act as liaison between software vendors and MTA; coordinate installation of updates to applications.
  • Perform other duties and assignments as assigned.

Physical Requirements with or without reasonable accommodations:

  • Must be able to operate office equipment, including but not limited to telephone, computer, printer, copy machine, facsimile machine, and calculator.
  • Position works in an environment where there is some exposure to dust, noise, and temperature. May be moderately exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include, dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals.
  • While at the Nashville MTA operating facilities, incumbent should observe all policies, procedures, safety precautions, and regulations using provided protective clothing and devices.

Additional Physical Requirements Include:

  • Working in various weather conditions such as rain, cold climate etc.
  • Lifting up to 40 pounds
  • Climbing stairs and ladders and working at heights
  • Working in confined spaces
  • Working with ITtools requiring fine motor skills

Required Skills, including but not limited to:

  • Actively and continuously improve professional knowledge, skills and abilities by participating in routine training sessions and educational seminars relevant to job duties.
  • Maintain an adaptable, flexible attitude. Always be approachable and be willing to collaborate within the team as well as with other departments.
  • The ability to take initiative and be self-motivated.
  • Strong and effective oral and written communication abilities are a must.
  • Strong attention to detail and a strong knowledge of best IT practices and computer systems,
  • Ability to independently identify and define problems within complex hardware/software platform, determine contributing factors and root causes, and recommend and implement solutions.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Speak clearly and distinctly.
  • Ability to work independently with little-to-no supervision
  • Ability to work any schedule including evenings and weekends as will be occasionally needed.
  • Ability to read and understand flowchart diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Ability to multi-task and change directions with little to no notice.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Associate degree or equivalent in technical support field; two or more years of experience in similar work may waive degree requirements
