Catholic Charities is seeking Associate Therapists to provide exceptional services to children, parents, and teachers in pubic preschools and private school settings. This is a fantastic opportunity for an Associate Therapist to obtain valuable supervised experience and training in a supportive environment. Our team of Clinical Supervisors, Therapists, and Administrators have a wealth of knowledge and experience to help foster your development as an Associate Therapist. Our School Services Associate Therapists work onsite at Headstart and Riverside Unified School District pre-schools. Our pre-school therapist may also opt to provide part-time school counseling services at Catholic Schools with children ranging from pre-kindergarten to 8th grade.
This is a part time position (Up to 28 hours per week) and typically include four(4) hours per day. The numbers of days on campus per week is negotiable. Beginning with a required 18 hour training in mid- August, on campus services begin in September and end in mid-June.
Associate Therapists with over 1,000 BBS hours may also have the opportunity to provide (teletherapy) counseling services, which makes for a well-rounded experience. This opportunity is well suited for an Associate Therapist who is passionate about providing services to individuals, couples, and families while to enhance their professional development and obtain additional hours toward licensure. If also engaged in teletherapy services, availability schedules require evening and Saturday appointments.
STATEMENT OF THE JOB
Under the direction and support of seasoned staff, the purpose of our services is to provide a continuum of early identification and early intervention services to promote social and emotional competence and decrease the development of disruptive behavior disorders among pre-school children in the classroom, as well as promote parent collaboration & education. School Services Therapists will engage in practices that are responsive to the behavioral and emotional concerns of identified children and will include ongoing communication and collaboration with teachers and parents. In addition to working directly with children in individual and group settings, therapists will meet with parents as requested in reference to their child’s emotional/behavioral concerns and assist them in accessing other community resources as needed. Generally, school therapists work at three or more sites in or near the City of Riverside. Catholic School campuses seeking school counselors are located in both Riverside & San Bernardino Counties. Required BBS supervision is provided by Catholic Charities’ Clinical Supervisors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborates with pre-school staff (teachers, school personnel, parents, program partners, etc.) to provide supportive mental health services.
- Provide group and/or individual attention to children, teachers, or parents to teach early childhood socio/emotional development using evidence-based curriculum.
- Model and teach adaptive coping strategies.
- Collaborates with parents and children to facilitate the behavioral change process.
- Represents Catholic Charities with professionalism while collaborating with school staff to provide on-site services.
- Complete and submit accurate and detailed paperwork as required.
- Adherence to Catholic Charities policies and local pre-school guidelines.
- Conducts all assigned duties in a professional, ethical manner that protects the rights and dignity of all clients.
- Attend weekly individual and group clinical supervision provided by the agency.
- Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, or in a related Mental Health field from an accredited school, which qualifies the applicant as an associate level therapist (AMFT, ASW, or APCC) with the Board of Behavioral Sciences.
- Previous experience and/or proven knowledge of preschool age developmental and social/emotional needs preferred.
- Awareness of legal and ethical mandates pertinent to the role of an associate level therapist.
- An ability to work independently while demonstrating the highest level of professional integrity and ethical behavior.
- An understanding of crisis management with the ability to respond calmly and effectively in critical situations.
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred – not required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & ENVIRONMENT
Includes but not limited to considerable use of arms and legs, whole body movement, walking, lifting, and stooping, standing, sitting, lifting and carrying up to 30lbs., pushing, pulling, kneeling, crouching, hearing, speaking, seeing, reaching, repetitive forward bending, repetitive arm/hand motions, prolonged gripping of an item, repetitive hand/finger movements, sense of touch/feel. This position will work within a classroom environment with preschool children. This position requires the ability to travel between school sites.
