Job DescriptionJob Description

The Peer Recovery Coach supports consumers by sharing their lived experience and educating about recovery and rehabilitation, linking to resources supporting efforts to attend community-based self-groups. Peer Recovery Coach will walk with the consumer on the path of recovery, independence, self-advocacy and anti-stigma.

This position reports to the Adult Outpatient Program Manager. Position is full-time.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include, but may not be limited to the following:

  • Gain trust and respect of peers based on shared experience, mutual support, and perspective, utilizing effective and non-judgmental listening skills.
  • Model recovery and skills that are conducive to community participation and inclusion.
  • Attend support groups with consumers. .
  • Provide community-based follow-up services as identified by the person served.
  • Reports to work on time as scheduled and at the location assigned.
  • Develops a relationship of trust and help consumers to move from hopelessness to hope.
  • Assists consumers with exploring differences in culture and thought for personal growth.
  • Provide services from a strength-based perspective, and acknowledge the strengths, informed choices and decisions of the consumers.
  • Practices Person Centered Planning and Recovery principles through facilitating client involvement in the treatment planning process.
  • Participates in supervision and team meetings.
  • Maintains 80 monthly direct service hours and completes all documentation within 24 hours of service delivery.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)

REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

  • Upon hire, must have completed CPRC training and be certified as (CPRC), CPSS also preferred.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • One year experience utilizing CMH services; Must demonstrate experience in recovery from mental illness, addiction, and/or homelessness

QUALIFICATIONS - To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Possession of a valid Michigan Driver’s License with a good driving record.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Possess the ability to communicate with others clearly in writing and verbally, with active listening skills.
  • Be able to drive throughout the community with other consumers in the vehicle
