SUMMARY OF POSITION FUNCTION:

Plans, organizes, manages and administers on and off-center recreational activities for students.


MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Oversees the supervision of students engaged in center-sponsored recreational activities on and off center.

 Provides supervision, training, and assessment for assigned recreation staff.

 Plans, implements and evaluates all recreational programs and makes recommendations for change.

 Prepares schedules and calendars for all recreational activities. Coordinates student field trips.

 Creates a supportive work environment; recognizes staff accomplishments and proactively addresses staff performance goals.

 Tracks and records program attendance.

 Orders and maintains recreational equipment, supplies and materials.

 Prepares and controls the departmental budget.

 Designs, develops and implements an active system of communicating upcoming recreation events to students, staff and the community.

 Implements an active system for obtaining student feedback and statements of interest.

 Promotes student and staff participation and interest in recreation activities.

 Recognizes and reinforces students’ positive behavior.  Plans, organizes and controls the use of overtime and on-call staff to insure compliance with Center and ETR policy and procedures.

 Models appropriate behaviors, mentors students and monitors both positive and negative behaviors through interventions.  Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

 Demonstrated hands-on management style and organization skills

 Proven ability to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate recreation programs

 Proven ability to build partnerships and secure resources that benefit program objective

 Excellent leadership and coaching skills; excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

 Extensive knowledge of operational practices and principles of recreation/avocation programs

 Proficient in rules and regulations of common sports and games

 Knowledge of fitness, nutrition, and healthy lifestyle practices

 Proficient in the use of computer software such as MSWord, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, etc.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

 Bachelors Degree in Physical Education, Recreation, or a related field. A combination of education and experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.

EXPERIENCE:

 Two years of recreation experience or one year of which was in a supervisory capacity.

 Must possess a valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.

 Encouraged to obtain valid commercial Driver’s License Class B with passenger endorsement within three months of hire. Water Safety Certification.
