Position Description: The Village at Germantown is seeking a dedicated and experienced fine dining Sous Chef to assist our Executive Chef with the day-to-day operations of our kitchen. The ideal candidate will work closely with other kitchen staff to ensure all tasks are completed to the highest standards. Responsibilities include assisting with inventories, ordering food and supplies, and controlling food costs.

Essential Functions:


  1. Assume total supervision of kitchen staff and operations when needed and requested by management.
  2. Assist in training all kitchen staff; supervise cooks in portion and quality control and in the use of standardized recipes.
  3. Assist with planning of weekly menu cycles and placing food orders.
  4. Provide input on performance reviews for kitchen staff.
  5. Complete daily production sheets for all culinary staff; conduct daily production meetings; take daily food inventories; and prepare food orders.
  6. Prepare entrees, vegetables, salads, and desserts as specified by the Executive Chef.
  7. Ensure adherence to proper cleanliness and sanitation policies and procedures; conduct documented daily sanitation inspections of the kitchen, walk-ins, and storage areas.
  8. Attend all required training and meetings.
  9. Set up and prepare food for special events.
  10. Promote teamwork and cooperation among staff, ensuring the highest standards and quality of customer service.
  11. Perform other duties as requested or required by management.
  12. Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
Skills, Knowledge, Certifications, and Licensing:


  • Advanced knowledge of food preparation methods and procedures.
  • Knowledge of kitchen equipment and materials.
  • General knowledge of product specifications, customer service, management, inventories, ordering, sanitation, and supervision.
Experience and Educational Requirements:


  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Formal culinary training is a plus.
  • Prior supervisory experience mandatory.
  • Minimum of one year of experience as a cook in a fine dining restaurant.
Physical Requirements:


  • Ability to stand and walk short and long distances for extended periods of time.
  • Requires stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds to shoulder level to carry trays.
  • Must be able to push 200 pounds using a mobile cart.
