CIVIL ESTIMATOR: Down To Earth Compliance is looking for the right person to help us grow our capacity to deliver civil construction services to the renewables and commercial construction markets.

DTEC’s target market is Civil construction and Erosion Control in Colorado’s Front Range, especially site work for commercial general contractors. DTEC also performs both civil and mechanical scope of work for community and utility scale solar projects regionally. Knowledge of the renewables sector is preferred.


Purpose of the Role

Prepare complete estimates for assigned project(s) of small ($50K) to medium ($2.5m) size and complexity. The right estimator will be responsible for building sustainable and healthy client relationships and will set up the field operations team for success. Together we will target projects that are a fit for our strengths and allow us to capture strong margins in exchange for delivering excellent quality work.

Functions / Duties


  • Review and incorporate historical data from recent and past project history, discussions with subcontractors, etc. into unit cost and production rates used to generate budgets.
  • Review Request for Proposal specifications, drawings, attend pre−bid meetings, etc. to determine scope of work and required contents of budget/estimate.
  • Prepare budgets/estimates by completing takeoffs of scope of work.
  • Collect and organize all working documents and data to support estimate figures.
  • Contact and communicate with all subcontractors to ensure pricing and scope of work are complete and accurate.
  • Interface with owner, architect/engineer(s), and other contractors to provide engineering and cost data regarding project feasibility.
  • Review awarded contracts prior to issuance to subcontractors. This may include: estimating extra work items, change orders, credits, procuring material, etc.
  • Able to occasionally travel to current or proposed project sites.
  • Attend bid meetings and walk throughs at various locations to determine scope of work, complexities, accessibility and required content of estimates.
  • Complete all tasks, as required, by the project deadlines.
  • Support all preconstruction/estimating efforts on projects from kick off to budget handoff.
  • Ability to do moderate math equations, understand financial concepts, and interpret computerized cost data and systems, engineering drawings, purchase orders, contracts, and other construction documents.
  • Problem solving skills: Ability to assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem
  • 5+ years’ experience in an estimating role with projects that include at least some of the following: Sitework and Finish Grading; SWPPP; Reclamation; Site Utilities; Overlot Grading; Trucking; minor concrete work.


Education / Experience


  • 4 year engineering or construction management degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and field experience.
  • 1 to 4 years estimating, cost control and/or engineering experience
  • Minimal estimating, cost control, and engineering experience
  • Good knowledge of estimating techniques and cost control, as well as ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems.
  • Good plan reading abilities.
  • Good level of proficiency in required estimating software.


Physical DemandsEstimators spend a lot of time in an office environment, sitting and standing for extended periods of time and pushing/pulling/lifting boxes and items 25-30 pounds. Estimators must also continually visit clients and construction sites, including the ability to walk for extended periods on uneven ground, climb ladders, and maneuver obstacles.
Work EnvironmentIndoor and outdoor work, including changing office temperatures, and exposure to variant weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, etc.) and muddy ground conditions.

Compensation

Base pay range is between $75,000 and $110,000 annually, with additional bonus potential.
