Position Summary:
The Accountant I will play a key role in supporting the financial operations of our poultry processing company. This position will be responsible for performing a variety of accounting tasks, including processing financial transactions, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policies. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a desire to grow within the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- General Ledger Management:
- Assist in maintaining and reconciling the general ledger, including setting up new vendors, customers, product codes, etc.
- Post journal entries and ensure accuracy in financial records.
- Accounts Payable/Receivable:
- Process invoices and manage accounts payable functions.
- Handle accounts receivable, including invoicing and payment processing.
- Assist with banking functions via Wells Fargo CEO Portal (desktop deposits, setting up ACH/wire payments, etc.)
- Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and assist in preparing weekly reports, including processing yields, AgriStats data, operational dashboards, and P&L.
- Prepare and assist in preparing monthly financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Support the month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Compliance & Audit:
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and relevant accounting regulations.
- Assist with audits by providing documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
- Inventory Accounting:
- Assist with the reconciliation and reporting of inventory balances.
- Data Analysis & Entry:
- Perform data entry tasks and ensure accuracy in financial data.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, discrepancies, and areas for improvement.
- Other Duties:
- Provide support to the accounting team as needed.
- Participate in special projects and perform other related duties as assigned.
- Oversee outside/employee chicken sales via Clover platform
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 2-5 years of experience in accounting or finance, preferably in the manufacturing or food processing industry.
- Experience with accounting software (Dynamics GP strongly preferred).
- Experience with Power BI is a plus.
- Strong understanding of basic accounting principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- The position is based in an office setting within the poultry processing facility.
- May occasionally require visits to the production floor to collaborate with operations teams.
- Standard working hours with occasional overtime during peak periods (e.g., month-end close).
- Ability to sit for extended periods.
- Occasional lifting of files and materials up to 20 pounds.
