The Ceramist’s primary function is to fabricate a combination of anterior and posterior stain and glaze ceramics.

Schedule: Full time 40 hours Monday-Friday


Compensation: $25-$35 an hour depending on experience

Essential Functions

  • Fabricate glaze ceramics proficiently using established criteria for proper tooth morphology, functionality, and maximum aesthetics.
  • Builds-up ceramic restoration by continuously applying layers of porcelain.
  • Polishes and finishes appliance to ensure smoothness and fit.
  • Applies stains and glazes to restorations to create a natural look to include Empress and E-Max.
  • Work with porcelain fused to zirconia using E-Max layering ceramic and porcelain fused to metal.
  • Fabricates and repairs dental prosthesis/dental appliances such as dentures, partials, crown and bridge, inlay/onlay, veneers and implant restorations.
  • Reads prescription included with case; constructs prostheses by following doctors’ written orders and instructions.
  • Communicates with colleagues and managers in a prompt articulate manner.
  • Uses a wide range of materials, such as metal (precious, non-precious, gold) or non-metal materials (porcelain, composite, acrylic, polyurethane, co-polyester, thermo plastic).
  • Replaces partial or total loss of natural teeth by constructing partial or full dentures (metal and non-metal).
  • Makes models of mouth and teeth from impressions taken by dentist.
  • Builds-up wax replicas of part or all of mouth and/or teeth on model.
  • Encases wax in mould material and melts away wax; replaces wax with plastic, metal, or ceramic materials to make replacement appliance.
  • Uses different kinds of hand tools and equipment (electric drills, presses, lathes, high-heat furnaces, sandblasters, paint brushes, carvers, etc).
  • Documents actions by completing forms, logs and reports.
  • Works closely with quality control specialists and addresses all issues regarding quality standards.
  • Follows quality standard protocol.
  • Recognizes and reports problem cases or cases that need additional prep work.
  • Prepares equipment and materials (fills mixing bins, empties equipment receptacles, etc.).
  • Performs other related duties and projects as business needs require at direction of management
Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Basic dental training.
  • Prior dental experience or background, a plus.
  • Previous experience working in positions that require hand and finger dexterity, a plus
  • Knowledge of principles of occlusion and functionality of the oral environment.
  • Hand eye coordination.
  • Ability to shade match.

Skills and Competencies

  • High level organizational skills, time management skills and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment to consistently meet deadlines
  • Ability to anticipate, identify and resolve problems in a timely and positive manner
  • Strong technology skills and the ability to leverage technology in work processes
  • Knowledge of principles, procedures and best practices in the industry

Physical Requirements


Sitting - Sitting Continuous for 8+ hours

Standing - Standing. Particularly for sustained periods of time

Bending - Bending or stooping continuously for 8+ hours

Lift/Push/Carry - Must be able to lift, push, and carry up to 15lbs

Vision - The worker is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned (i.e., custodial, food services, general laborer, etc.) or to make general observations of facilities or structures

Additional Physical Requirements


Crouching. Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine, 8+ hours

Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers, pinch, grasp.

Able to use hand tools with repetitive vibration and manual dexterity.


Work Conditions

  • Must be able to wear personnel protective equipment for tasks requiring them.
  • The worker is subject to vibration, exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body
