Mentor Teacher

(Elementary) 1 Position

(Secondary) 1 Position

The Mentor Teacher works collaboratively with the administrators, teacher leaders, and other instructional staff to facilitate the implementation of Lone Tree School's Collective Commitment Statements with a focus on the following:

1) Collaboration through the professional learning community structure.

2) Implementation of standards-based curriculum.

3) Implementation of research-based instructional strategies.

4) Increased student achievement.

Responsibilities include (but not limited to) the following:

  • Exhibit behaviors that support the district/school's learning goals.
  • Demonstrate competence in instructional strategies and classroom management.
  • Establish and maintain a trusting, confidential, and non-evaluative relationship with beginning teachers.
  • Assist beginning teachers in reflecting on and analyzing their practice, reviewing student work, and using relevant data to inform and improve instruction.
  • Use knowledge of Iowa Teaching Standards to strengthen the beginning teacher's skills in those areas.
  • Model effective teaching strategies when appropriate and necessary, especially those relevant to the district goals of standards-based curriculum and research-based instruction.

Job Qualifications:

  • Iowa Standard Teaching License with three years of teaching experience and at least one year of experience in the Lone Tree School District.
  • Demonstrates competence to work with beginning teachers to promote professional growth of mentee while maintaining focus on student achievement.

Number of Positions: (MS/HS-1) (Elem-1)

Time Out of Classroom: (0%)

Extra Contract Time: Four (4) days during the summer, weekly leadership meetings, One (1) hour per month for mentor/mentee meetings.

Compensation: $4,000

Additional Training and/or Release Time: At least one workshop/training will be required per year. This training should be relevant to the teacher's position and building goals. Presentation during PD to the staff about the experience will take place at an agreed upon time between the building principal, leadership team, and Instructional Coach. Additional training during the school year will be determined in collaboration with the building principals.

Supervisor: Building Principal

Evaluation: All teacher leadership positions will be evaluated annually in an effort to provide opportunities for reflection, dialogue, and feedback for continued professional growth. Evaluation will also be based on meeting district goals.
