General Purpose: Responsible for various types of weld preparation, welding and weld finishing operations to manufacture product to drawings, specifications, or other forms of instruction performing the following duties:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Proficient in assigned welding techniques. Consists mostly of MIG welding (GMAW) of carbon steel and aluminum alloys. Occasionally TIG welding (GTAW) of the same materials, and stainless steel is necessary.
- Interpretation of mechanical drawings, including weld requirement symbology.
- Knowledge of wire and filler materials applications for various steel alloys and aluminum materials.
- Responsible for preparing and setting up necessary tools and equipment for welding jobs
- Working knowledge of fixturing and welding set up parameters (amps, volts, etc.)
- Arranging and assuring the parts to be welded are in order before being welded into final products. Using related drawings, squares, calipers, a tape measure, and fixturing for this task.
- Clamping, holding, tack-welding, heat-bending, bolting, or grinding parts as necessary to satisfy the technical requirements and create a welded final product.
- Control the processes of fitting, heating, and welding to avoid problems in relation to overheat, distortion, expansion or shrinkage of parts.
- Operating equipment safely and applying safety practices at work while performing his/her duties.
- Finish grinding applications using manual and power tools.
- Clean and prepare product for final assembly
- Examining finished products and parts. Comparing them with samples, standards, and referring to supervisor/quality assurance to check whether the specifications are met.
- Occasionally operating accessory equipment and performing tasks necessary for assembly of welded metal components, such as cutting, grinding, bending, and others.
- Communicating necessary welding equipment maintenance to supervisor.
- Assist in repairs as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications, Education and Certifications:
- High School diploma, or equivalent
- Needs to be able to work with limited supervision
- Must be able to read and understand mechanical blueprints, production/assembly instructions, parts lists, verbal instruction and notes
- Ability to apply previous experience to perform detailed written or oral instructions.
- Must have the ability to resolve minor problems as they arise
- Minimum 1-3 years of experience in various forms of welding, specifically aluminum and steel MIG welding with some TIG welding preferred. A mix of school and work acceptable.
- Preferred certification to welding standard AWS D1.1 and AWS D1.2, or equivalent in steel and aluminum standards (this certification will have to be obtained during employment if not already possessed)
