    Status: 62.5%, Part-Time, Non-Exempt, Union

    Probation: 90 days

    PROGRAM SUMMARY: The Los Angeles LGBT Center Culinary Arts Program reveals the power of food to unite our intergenerational campus while simultaneously helping members to start exciting new careers in the hospitality industry. A certified social enterprise, our culinary training program enrolls 100 students a year and produces over 450 daily meals for Center program members. We also operate the Center’s café, Liberation Coffee House, and provide event catering services.

    JOB SUMMARY: The Delivery Driver ensures the on-time and safe transport of meals to our home-bound senior members. The driver must possess excellent customer service skills as they provide door to door meal delivery in a warm and courteous manner. To ensure success, the driver must also be able to effectively communicate and work with a diverse group of clients, staff, and volunteers.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Ensures the on-time delivery of meals to clients’ residences.
    • Prepares delivery equipment and ensures that hot boxes are preheated and ice packs are ready for cold transport prior to loading meals.
    • Utilizes the route sheet and menu to load the delivery vehicle with the correct amount of inventory including hot and cold meals, beverages and other service items.
    • Ensures that all documentation is completed including meal delivery and temperature logs;
    • Ensures that the vehicle is unloaded at the end of the route including: removing all leftover meals, removing any garbage, returning all equipment to the kitchen, cleaning hot boxes and delivery bags at the end of each shift.
    • Is knowledgeable about our menu and able to answer basic food preparation and ingredient questions.
    • Report any concerns with client’s wellbeing to Center management including missed deliveries.
    • Ensure that all health and safety codes are under compliance, and implements procedures to safeguard proper compliance (this includes cleaning logs, temperature logs, and corrective action documentation.
    • Ensures the cleanliness of the delivery van and all equipment. Fills the van with gas as needed.
    • Work in a commercial kitchen environment which requires: standing in a stationary position or moving through the kitchen for the duration of your working shift, completing repetitive manual tasks such as cutting and dish washing, lifting items up to 20 pounds to a height of 4 feet, and exposure to extreme temperature variations due to hot cooking and dishwashing equipment and cold storage areas.
    • Participate in staff meetings, planning meetings and other meetings as needed.
    • Assists with other food deliveries as needed for the program’s catering and café operations.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ people.
    • A passion for the Center’s work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people.
    • Must have Food Handler’s Permit or be able to pass the exam within 30 days after the date of hire.
    • Must be proficient at reading menus and route sheets to ensure the correct delivery of meals.
    • Must be able to utilize a smart phone to access GPS navigations, contact clients, utilize route delivery software and communicate with Center management as needed;
    • Valid California driver’s license and clear DMV record.
    • Good verbal and written communication skills.
    • Excellent time management skills and an ability to work with a sense of urgency.
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expression, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.
