Job DescriptionJob Description

A highly skilled and specialized automation build and repair person that works under minimal direction to assemble, debug, and test various types of industrial automation equipment. This position will be directly responsible for all levels machine build to ensure the proper operation / performance of the following types of automation; Indexing Rotary Dial, Cam Operated Indexing Rotary Dial, Power and Free, and In-line.

Duties:

  1. Assembly of all mechanical machine elements, from component level up through machine level systems.
  2. Install, inspect, and adjust pneumatic cylinders, flow controls, gauges, regulators, robotic grippers, rotary actuators, and pneumatically operated solenoids as needed.
  3. Install, inspect, and adjust electrical sensing devices, temperature control devices, proximity switches, reed switches, linear voltage displacement units, electrical clutches, electrical brakes, motors, vibratory inline / bowl controls, servos, coils, and fiber-optic control systems as needed.
  4. Install, inspect, and adjust fixtures, slides, bearings, seals, standard tooling, special tooling, vibratory bowls, vibratory in-lines, shocks, and springs, as needed.
  5. Read and interpret electrical and mechanical blue prints for the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of components and systems.
  6. Manufacture replacement or new fixtures, gages, and tooling made of various metals from blue prints or sketches utilizing an end mill, lathe, grinder, and drill press.
  7. Report problems requiring outside assistance to Automation Division Manager.
  8. Assist in maintaining accurate and up to date technical references that include; blue prints, schematics, and data.
  9. Coordinate with Automation Division Manager for obtaining outside vendor assistance for installation, warranty, and contracted work.
  10. Work with other plant personnel as required to support manufacturing, engineering efforts, and daily office business.
  11. Assist in the evaluation of new and existing equipment designs.
  12. Follow all safety rules and practices.
  13. Other duties as assigned by Automation Division Manager.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.

Ability to manufacture (machine) fixtures, gages and tooling from blueprints or sketches.

Ability to train and develop personnel and their skills in the area of automation diagnostics and repair.

Effectively communicate with supervisor and management team.

Good verbal and written communication skills.

Computer literate.

Education & Experience:

A four year apprenticeship program or equivalent job experience supplemented by classroom instruction.

A minimum of four years experience in a similar machine-building environment.

Extensive experience in building, adjusting, and repairing industrial automation equipment.

Extensive experience in maintenance that includes, performance of preventive and corrective maintenance, analysis and maintenance documentation.

Preferred Requirements:

Industrial Machinery Repair, Tool and Die Maker, or Machinist

Welding experience

Electrical panel build and wiring experience

Lead/supervisory experience
