The Bowfish Kids Director + Lead Buyer is responsible for leading the direction of the entire Bowfish Kids vertical. They are the captain of the Bowfish Kids ship, and they direct and support our team in our location in Ocean City, NJ. They oversee operations and lead direction for seasonal buying and merchandise management. They challenge our industry partners on sustainable practices and hold us accountable for our sustainability goals. They are responsible and are in the first command for Bowfish Kids inventory management, brick-and-mortar operations, and team management.

Location + Schedule:
  • Ocean City, NJ
  • Monday through Friday.
Whats expected:
  • 40hrs/wk
  • Additional hours on required sale + event days:
    • Semi-annual sales, block parties, earlier than the bird, product launches, inventory counts and photoshoot days. Rotating basis for semi-annual, block party, and EETB.
  • Travel and additional hours during the following months for buying season:
    • January/February
    • July/Aug

    • Cannot be taken during required sale + event days, and is limited to 2 consecutive days during the months of June-August. Exceptions must be cleared in advance by the director.

Key Responsibilities

1. Store Operations + Direction for All Locations
  • Maintain and oversee store operations and challenges by supporting and directing assistant buyer, store manager, and bowfish kid's sales staff.
  • Oversee seasonal direction and community events/engagement by maintaining seasonal calendar and giving direction to team.
  • Lead direction on semi-annual sales and directing team on scheduling, setup, and prep.
  • Organize our semi-annual photoshoots and lead team on direction and execution.
  • Upload images from seasonal photoshoot to shopify.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with our window designer and support in inventory direction. Meet monthly to create merchandise pick-packs.
  • Responsible for POS management and inventory tracking systems.
2. Inventory Oversight + Direction
  • Vendor Communications, internal and external
  • Maintain buyer email communications and inbox organization.
  • Research and verify vendor sustainability values.
  • Create ecom tech packs and communicate with vendors on tech-pack completion. Uploading of tech-packs into shopfiy.
  • Communicating with vendors on flat lays and other digital assets and imputing into SharePoint.
  • Oversee product issues and communicate with vendors for resolution.
  • Submission of new season orders to brands and confirm orders with vendors.
  • Seasonal Prep + Execution
  • Research of new products and vendors.
  • Semiannually plan market calendar and appointments.
  • Prepare for new season by prepping PO excels
  • Organize photoshoot calendar and manage execution.
  • Point of Sale and Inventory Management
  • Creation of new products within lightspeed by using imports.
  • Track deliveries and forward new invoices to assistant buyer when a product has been shipped.
  • Oversee any delivery and vendor issues.
  • Maintain POS item database and perform seasonal clean ups.
  • Lead direction on EOY inventory counts and execute count, reconciliation and reporting.
  • Projecting + Forecasting
  • Create and maintain sales plan for seasonal buying direction and budgeting.
  • Imputing weekly numbers for reports.
  • Analyze and create sales plans for the season.
  • Inventory Direction
  • Track inventory sell-through by keeping weekly reports and make decisions on markdowns.
  • Communicate sale direction to admin team and sales staff.
  • Manage annual inventory counts.
  • Oversee floor merchandising and back-room management.
3. Admin team responsibilities
  • Attend Tuesday TBs. Maintain weekly updates for kids vertical.
  • Maintain communication via teams and outlook inboxes daily.
  • Manage buyer phone monday-friday.
  • Maintain inbox organization of filing emails and keeping a clean inbox.
  • Actively prevent hacks by consistently reporting spam and malicious emails.
  • Maintain organization of sharepoint and backend file systems.
  • Updating docs as you use them to keep information current across our teams.
  • Maintain calendar of the kids and buying verticals.
  • Maintain organization of Canva files and projects.
  • Maintain organization of Bowfish office space and participate in scheduled rotating cleaning schedules.

What's Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 3+ years of buying experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in POS systems.
  • Experience in open-to-buy planning.
  • At least one year of previous management experience in a high-end retail service environment is preferable. Possess current knowledge of fashion trends and competition in the marketplace.
  • Mobility to maneuver the sales floor and stock room. Requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and other physical duties and will require occasionally using ladders and lifting and/or moving items that weigh more than 50 pounds.
  • Must reside locally or be willing to relocate to the local store area during the summer and holiday season.
  • Must provide 2 references from previous employment.
  • NDA agreement restricting the release or sharing of information owned by Bowfish such as trade secrets, financials, and other sensitive Bowfish assets.
