Job Description

The Tool Room Machinist / Technician role will be responsible for manufacturing & maintaining production tooling & dies for various manufacturing processes at this facility.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Interpret specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts.

  1. Set up and operate machine tools such as lathes, mills, and grinders.

  1. Perform machining operations to close tolerances on complicated parts, tooling, equipment, devices, or experimental and development work as per mechanical drawings.

  1. Fit and assemble parts together and into assemblies and mechanisms.

  1. Verify and inspect dimension, alignment, and clearance.

  1. Examine standard or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, and recommend design modifications regarding construction and function of part.

  1. Assist in development work.

  1. Perform complex work with different types of material, tolerances, types cutting tools, coolants, lubricants, and machine tool feeds and speeds.

  1. Heat treat parts as required.

  1. Personal hand tools and toolboxes are required, and the candidate is responsible for their own tools and toolbox. List of tools required to be discussed during interview. Cutting tools and inserts provided by company.

  1. All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.

  1. Possess at least seven years of similar or related experience.

  1. Experience in using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, bench gauges, optical profilometers, etc.

  1. Hands on with good mechanical aptitude, attention to detail & strong initiative.

  1. Possess basic mathematical skills including the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, use whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Possess the ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.

  1. Possess the ability to deal with problems involving limited concrete variables in standardized situations.

6. Possess the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, bar graphs, and procedure manuals.

7. Possess basic communication skills using common courtesy.

8. Possess the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in oral, written, or diagram form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, feel, or handle; employee must regularly reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand and sit. The employee is occasionally required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to forty pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and/or vibration. The noise level in this environment is usually loud.
