Position Summary:

Kommissary is a social enterprise on a mission to spread joy through food. We produce and deliver high volumes of meals spanning a diverse array of cuisines to every demographic in New York City.


Kommissary is seeking a Food Purchasing Specialist that will work efficiently in a high-paced environment, using good verbal and written communication skills. As a Purchasing Specialist, you will be responsible for supporting the purchasing team in sourcing protein, dried goods and produce, negotiating contracts, and logistics management. This person should possess the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a successful, growth-oriented company. Responsibilities & Duties:

· Assist in sourcing proteins, produce, and dried goods, obtaining quotes, and identifying potential suppliers.

· Negotiate contracts with vendors to secure favorable terms and pricing.

· Match vendor invoices to purchase orders.

· Coordinate with internal departments to ensure timely delivery of products.

· Determine order requirements based on factors such as the sales pipeline and historical data.

· Maintain a tracking system (initially using Excel, transitioning to project management software) to ensure timely follow-ups and set reminders for key dates and tasks.

· Support the purchasing team in analyzing market trends and identifying cost-saving opportunities.

· Collaborate with stakeholders to effectively address any supply chain issues or delays.


Qualifications:

· Prior experience in food purchasing, procurement, and a degree in a related field.

· Strong negotiation skills to secure advantageous contracts.

· Ability to perform calculations based on pre-existing formulas, maintain tracking systems, set reminders, and manage data.

· Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

· Excellent communication skills to interact with vendors and the ability to recognize unreasonable quotes.


Physical Requirements:

Generally, presents standard office environment. Must be able to remain in a stationary position >95% of the time. Continually operates a computer, keyboard and mouse, and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, printer, and mobile Smartphone device. Constantly positions self to comfortably maintain computer equipment. May occasionally be required to move about in an office setting or position office equipment weighing between 10-25 pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Ability to operate a motor vehicle. The person in this position frequently communicates with other people. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

Compensation:

Pay range is $22.00 to $26.00 per hour, depending on skill level, experience and/or education. Compensation offered is also subject to local wage and hour laws.
