POSITION SUMMARY
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for the safety and well-being of the pool and the participants in the swim team program effectively and courteously, enforcing all pool rules, regulations, and policies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsibility for the mechanical operations of the pools at the Monett YMCA, including the quality, facilitation, and safety of said pools.
- Coordinating and coaching the Y Swim Team, including practices, hosting meets, events and maintaining positive and trusting relationships with participants and parents in the community.
- Supervises swim team to ensure safety requirements are met and that the Y’s core values: Caring, Respect, Honesty, and Responsibility are consistently demonstrated.
- Oversees training and meets, including scheduling and effectively communicating dates with parents and participants.
- Responsible for analyzing swim techniques and determining skill levels.
- Develops individualized swimming programs and educates swimmers on various techniques and styles.
- Prepare swimmers for meets physically and mentally, including stressing to participants, parents, and guests that their behavior is representing the core values of the Y.
- Recruits new talent and retain participants through building positive relationships with the team and the community. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers, connecting them with each other and the YMCA.
- Organizes and puts away team equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
- Conducting swim lessons as assigned
- Assist with aquatics program/lesson scheduling, responding to public inquiries, instructions, and staff trainings.
- Supervise pool area and ensure lifeguard staff are always monitoring and portraying professional behavior. Ensure no distraction or interference with the ability to hear or see signs of distress. Ability to fill in as lifeguard and instructor.
- Ensure program quality and monitor staff performance and member service.

- Be knowledgeable, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Always keeping Safety at the forefront of your mind.
- Knows/reviews all emergency procedures with the team and provides leadership in emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, and procedures.
- Maintains records as required (i.e., attendance, progress reports, etc.) and completes incident and accident reports, as necessary.
- Works effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions, and perceptions.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 21 years of age with 2 years of related experience.
- YMCA Swim Instructor certification, or equivalent.
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen certifications required.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Proven verbal communication skills that impact human relations at all levels of responsibility, strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Experienced teambuilding, programming, and project management skills
- Ability to take initiative, be flexible, use sound judgment, and work harmoniously with others.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee must have the ability to respond to Emergencies at any time with sound judgment and physical aquatic lifesaving ability.
- Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position for long periods of time, including walking, standing, bending, squatting, and kneeling.
- Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
- Ability to work in various outdoor temperatures including high heat and humidity.
- Ability to lift to 45 pounds.
- Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper swim techniques.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
