POSITION SUMMARY

The Project Engineer will be responsible for finding, scoping, and initiating value improvement opportunities across the RealTruck product portfolio. This role will have an engineering focus around the design and development process of consumer products and will be required to build strong business cases for change and manage projects effectively and efficiently. This position will work cross-functionally with Product Engineering, Quality, Operations, Procurement, Sales, Product Management to develop ideas that not only improve the value proposition for the company, but for our consumers as well.

CORE FUNCTIONS

  • Engineering -- Responsible for guiding platform-level engineering, design, and validation. Collaborate with RealTruck’s Engineering team and facilitate design, design reviews, and setting specifications/targets for quality, material cost, labor cost, etc.
  • Business Case Development – Responsible for BOM development and cost estimating considering the total cost, including labor, overhead, and material.
  • Problem Solving -- Lead and engage in trouble shooting with the team to develop options for success during complex situations.
  • Design – Design in CAD (SolidWorks or similar software) for production implementation (using the DFMA toolbox skills i.e. DOE, DFMEA, etc.). Provide direction for innovative and new product design solutions to meet customer and company requirements.
  • Project Management- Develop timelines, track open issues, create and monitor milestones, along with other project management tools and processes.
  • DFMEA and DVP&R – Develop DVP&Rs collaboratively with RealTruck’s Corporate Test & Validation team to ensure best practices are followed. Manage and perform product analysis and validation test activities for existing and new products for commercial viability, durability, and functionality.
  • Supplier Coordination – Partner with RealTruck’s supply base for the design, development, and validation of components and sub-systems.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or a combination of equivalent education and experience required.
  • 2+ years of hands-on, professional automotive product engineering experience working in Consumer Product design, or OEM / Tier 1 body / exterior / sealing / mechanisms or equivalent is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in Project Management preferred.

Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge

  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite. Must be highly skilled in Excel.
  • CAD design experience required. Skilled in SolidWorks preferred.
  • Ability and confidence to present to Senior Leadership is required.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Deep understanding of business case development and a strong understanding of the design and development process of consumer products.
  • Strong project management skills and attention to detail.

Travel

  • Travel will be domestic, project dependent, and occasionally with short notice. < 8 weeks per year or about 15%.
