The City of O'Fallon is looking for an organized and detail-oriented individual for an Evidence Specialist in the City's Police Department. This position performs specialized duties in support of the department's evidence management operations, including receiving and preparing evidence and property seized by officers for storage and transport to labs for analysis. Evidence Specialists can expect to make a starting hourly rate of $21.36; the position hourly rate ranges from $21.36 to $32.04 (top of grade) We also offer excellent benefits including health, vision, dental, employer-paid life insurance, long-term disability, a MOLAGERS retirement pension, 11 holidays, 1 personal holiday, vacation time, paid sick time, a deferred compensation 457 plan, employee assistance, tuition assistance, optional identity theft insurance and pet insurance, as well as a discounted fitness membership.

We're looking for someone who has the desire to deliver great customer service to not only the public, but with internal customers as well. This person should be able to easily learn department policies and procedures and have knowledge of modern office practices and equipment, including excellent computer skills.

As an Evidence Specialist, your duties and responsibilities will include:


• Maintains long-term storage of evidence
• Enters evidence data to computerized database
• Places bar codes on packages
• Maintains chain of custody by signing evidence in and out
• Documents the results of laboratory analysis
• Disposes of evidence and property as appropriate
• Coordinates evidence for court proceedings
• Researches cases, confirms ownership, and releases property to appropriate parties
• Orders and maintains supplies
• Audits computer records to prepare items for sale.
• Prepares annual budget requests.
• Researches and locates facilities for the proper disposal of unusual evidence or the proper analysis of unusual evidence.
• Ability to provide credible testimony in municipal, state and federal court.
• Performs related duties.

• Knowledge of departmental and city policies and procedures and federal, state, and local guidelines.
• Knowledge of evidence control and audit practices.
• Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
• Skill in the preparation of clear and precise administrative reports.
• Skill in oral and written communication.


We are looking for individuals to apply who possess:


• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/ internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Missouri.
