Job Description


Nelson's Construction is seeking to hire or contract for an experienced Architectural Associate. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable in the development, design and implementation of residential projects such as new design / build custom homes, additions, whole home renovations, basement finishes and outdoor living spaces. This role will work under the guidance of our in house Architect on completing the structural, detail, permitting and construction plan sets.

Knowledge of custom residential design, materials and methods.

Attitude to be professional with clients and work well with the entire design and construction management team.

Skill with BIM software and a willingness to learn ArchiCAD if not already familiar with it.

Habits to follow a design process and reinforce drafting and graphic standards across multiple project types, scopes and schedules.

How you will spend your day? 

  • Producing and Reviewing residential project plans.
  • Ensuring all plans are compliant with current building codes.
  • Researching and maintaining knowledge of various styles, design disciplines, application methods and materials.
  • Managing the Interior Finish Selections process.
  • Sourcing materials.
  • Helping answer questions from our suppliers and subcontractors during the bidding process.
  • Provide guidance to Field Services and Subcontractors and help them interpret design specifications.
  • Visiting building sites to ensure work is being done according to plan.
  • And other Project Administration duties as needed.
  • Experience with Social Media posting, Marketing, Blogging, etc. is also a plus.


Key Skills

  • Attention to detail and desire for quality work
  • Read blueprints and material specifications to determine material properties, methods of installation, work procedures and tool requirements and communicate same with Field Services Management.
  • Experience with ArchiCAD or Chief Architect X 14 / 15 is a must


Requirements:

  • Experience. Degree in Architecture, Interior Design or related design discipline, minimum of 5-years’ experience (preferred)
  • Licensing. MN State Certification; Additional training and licensing is a plus
  • Willingness. Must have a drive to learn
  • Teamwork. Team focused approach to work
  • Reliable. Reliable means to make it to and from project sites, ability to pass pre-employment drug screen, and background check
  • Communication. Strong organizational and communication skills
